Mary in Valencia, Spain. Experts say that if the Holy Grail does exist that the one in the Cathedral of St. Mary is the best bet. It was carbon dated in 1960 and said to have been made in the middle east between the 300’s BC and the 100’s AD. It is made of dark red agate and set inside a golden stem. It is the official Chalice of the Catholic Church.

The film had strengths in which it shows the Holy Grail for what it probably truly would be, a simple cup for a simple lifestyle crafted by a sample carpenter, not a jeweled or golden chalice. The film also showed how someone would need to make a step out in faith in order to achieve everlasting life, and showing that Christ’s blood will save us and give us the salvation we seek. The healing powers of the Holy Grail were demonstrated, although it is not truly known what the Holy Grail would heal like, or if in…

The film, starring the (in)famous Monty Python team (consisting of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin), tells the tale of the legendary Arthur, King of the Britons, and his knights of the round table. King Arthur and his knights are traveling around Britain on a quest to find of the Holy Grail, using coconut shells to mimic horse-sounds (which is not only a fantastic visual joke, but also a necessity since there was no budget for real horses). During their travels they continuously find themselves in the most ridiculous of situations and encounter the weirdest of creatures, including but not limited to the Knights who say “ni!”, a murderous rabbit and taunting Frenchmen.…

Wise old men and hags appeared intermittently throughout the Holy Grail. When King Arthur and his knights were seeking a shrubbery, they said "Ni" to an old crone until the shrubber interrupted them. A wise old man appeared in scene 24 who led them to Tim the enchanter. Tim was a wise old man as well, for he knew where to find the cave, and he knew about the dangerous bunny like when he spoke," Just look at the bones." However, wise old men and hags are only half of the characters that depict a…

Though in this tale you will find these themes to be a bit different from that of what you would expect. Here you will find common knightly behavior to be mocked and used to bring about comedy in the tale. You will find the role of women to also be mocked in that they are being used to please men among their sexual desires and not just of servant use. Returning home to visit his mother he comes across the Fisher King, who invites him to stay at his castle. While there he witnesses a strange procession in which young men and women carry magnificent objects from one chamber to another. First comes a young man carrying a bleeding lance, then two boys carrying candelabra. Finally, a beautiful young girl emerges bearing an elaborately decorated graal, or "grail", passing before him at each course of the meal. Perceval, who had been warned against talking too much, remains silent through all of this and wakes up the next morning alone. He finds his mother is dead, then Arthur asks him to return to court. But before long, a loathly lady enters the court and admonishes Perceval for failing to ask his host whom the grail served and why the lance bled, as the appropriate question would have healed the wounded king.…

The legend of King Arthur can be traced as far back as the fourth and fifth centuries. But the earliest tales of Arthur were almost nothing like they are today. There were no wandering minstrels, or ladies–in–waiting, or knights in shining armor taking on bold quests to defend their ladies. Instead, there were tales of giants, and magic cups, and invaders from a foreign land. In some ancient versions of the legend, Arthur is a hero whose deeds are comparable to those of Hercules. In more modern versions, he is merely a king whose knights are the real heroes of the story. The earliest tales of Arthur were spread largely by word of mouth, and very few written accounts survive. Of the ones that do, we do not have the original documents, only copies…

In Billy Joel’s memorable song “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, he sings about an omnipresent fire and claims that his generation did not start it. The fire he speaks of is the social phenomenon that consumes the world. It infects society, everyone knows about it, and it has an impact on history that will be remembered in the future. No one started the fire specifically because different pop culture items have been popular and successful all throughout history. The fire begins spontaneously and cannot be easily stopped. It cannot, and should not, be put out. The empires of Elvis Presley and Harry Potter are two of the greatest social phenomena the world has ever seen due to their sudden and overwhelming popularity and success.…

Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein and The Modern Prometheus wrote during her life in the eighteenth century. In this time she turned the phrase, “I do not wish women to have power over men; but over themselves.” These words were far before the modern twenty-first century movement of feminism. Long before her time she foresaw the problems with the movement and perceptions of it. This quote simply states, women do not need to have power of men but they need to have power over themselves.…
