King Arthur Radley Extract

My scene occurs at the end of the book in chapter 31, when Scout is walking Arthur Radley back to his house. After Arthur was able to easily come out and help Jem and Scout, when they were being attacked by Bob Ewell, Scout wondered why he had never interacted in person with them before. This dialogue shows how Scout is growing up and how she is stepping into Arthur’s shoes to fully understand things she never did before. My dialogue adds on to two majors themes in the book. Also, it adds an explanation to the reader about Arthur Radley’s life and how innocent he really was.
“Come on Boo... I mean Arthur. Let’s get you home” I said.
After Arthur Radley had said goodnight to Jem it was time for me to take him home. Arthur was next to me as
Don’t you get lonely?” I had so many question and such little time because Atticus would start to wonder what was taking me so long.
Arthur said, “It’s been awhile and not much. I got used to just helping around the house and only coming in contact with my family. I don’t get lonely nomore. It's been so long I just don’t know any other way to live.”
“The night of the pageant how come you came outside to help me and Jem if you ain’t suppose to?”
“I heard you yellin’, so I went to look out the window. When I looked outside I didn’t see nothin’ but the screaming got loud so I thought I’d go check it out. I ran out of my house and I saw someone attacking y’all. After a second I realized he had a knife. So I tried to stop him from attackin’ you and Jem, but I couldn’t get him to stop so I...”
“I know, I reckon you did what you had to do to help. ” I said. I was happier than anyone in the world that Arthur was able to save Jem. Even though now I finally knew why Arthur was never around, I still had more questions. “Did you ever hear about what was going on outside?”
“Not really my father mainly ignored what was happening outside of our household.” Arthur
