Kingdom of Heaven Movie
Knight Over Night
The movie Kingdom of Heaven has many inaccuracies, some of these inaccuracies are for entertainment purposes and some of them are meant to give the movie a higher meaning.
Many of the inaccuracies in the movie that are meant only for entertainment are typically minor. These inaccuracies are those such as the affair that Sibylla was having with Balian. This scene in the movie is inaccurate because in that day and age such a religious woman would not likely have an affair with another man, especially when her husband is a distinguished member of the court. It is though this scene was just added to give the movie that soap opera drama that many people enjoy in their movies.
On the other hand there are inaccuracies that were put in the movie to express the argument, or higher meaning. These inaccuracies deal mostly with the dialogue of the movie. For example, there is a scene in which Balian is watching some Muslims pray. While watching the men he asked one of his followers who they are and what they are saying. The man responds by saying that,” they are Muslims”, and that they are saying, “Praise be to God, it is proper to praise Him”. Balian then responds by saying, “sounds a lot like our prayers” (Kingdom of Heaven). This scene is inaccurate because people’s beliefs at that time were sacred and it is not likely that they would compare their beliefs to others. This inaccuracy was added to give the idea that religion is not a factor in men being different and that all men are equal no matter what their religion. This starts to give the effect that Balian is a humanist and not a religious person. This also starts to give a little insight to the movies argument on religion.
Another scene involving Balian and his humanist perspective on life, is a one in which he kills a priest. The priest tries to persuade Balian to go with his father (Godfrey) to Jerusalem and the crusades, telling him that,” If you take the crusade, you just may relieve your

The Passion of the Christ is a movie based upon the last hours of Jesus' life. Though not all of what is potrayed in the movie is historically correct according to scripture. This set their central theme on the torture and crucifixion. The central theme of the four gospels is salvation and how Jesus taught, the intent of the movie deviates from scripture.…

People were fleeing Europe to join the Crusades in search of fortune or salvation. Europe was in a state of disease, poverty and famine; the people suffered greatly. During the Middle Ages, illness and misfortune was considered punishment from God for sins committed. It was thought that in order for people to be free of their despairs they had to ask for forgiveness and find salvation. That was why many people joined the Crusades, to redeem themselves in the eyes of God. Another reason for people to join the Crusades was for adventure, or a new chance at a better life. Men were often discontent and wanted to partake in war and be a hero. The land of Jerusalem also meant new opportunity, a place to set off to and forget the life left behind.…

Parts of the movie have been altered, but there are events that remain historically accurate. Things such as siege weapons, King Baldwin IV, and Knights Templar escaped the Hollywood modification. The use of weapons by the Muslims to capture or destroy castles is very evident in the movie. The Muslims used weapons like trebuchets, battering rams, and long ladders. They used the trebuchets to fling large fiery balls of fire into the castle, battering rams to break down walls and doors, and ladders to climb the walls. The Crusaders used the technique of throwing oil on the enemy then setting fire on them. King Baldwin IV is also displayed correctly in the movie. He was a leper well liked by his people and constantly tried to defend Jerusalem, his kingdom, against the attacks of Salah al Din. Later his trip to Kerak weakened him and he died in the year 1185. The Knights Templar were also portrayed correctly. They did fight in the Crusades against the Muslims and helped Christians along the way from Europe to Jerusalem. Their cross, too, was accurate.…

In the film Jesus, Joseph seemed to be one of the most important things in Jesus’ life, but in the Bible, there is almost no description of Joseph’s role as a father. Jesus cared about Joseph very much like his own father just like Joseph loved Jesus as his own. In the film, Jesus became very depressed and didn’t want to go preach to the world without his guidance when Joseph died. Joseph was his role model and Jesus did look up to him. Joseph did teach him how to be a carpenter and taught him how to be a servant to God.…

However accuracy of the subject speaking historically was moderate with some discrepancies. Actions of the characters in this film were portrayed properly like Pontius Pilate or Herod. Almost all of the characters were historically accurate. The themes in this film such as the crucifixion or the roman control would describe the time period that it happened. This film was bias towards the Christians and rarely took any approach to talk about the Jewish views. Gospels and the bible can be coincided with the film making it a reliable source. This film however did dramatize the actions and attitude of Jesus in my…

    The Pilgrim's Progress

The Pilgrims Progress, composed in 1678 by John Bunyan, is said to have originally graced John in a dream. As a Preacher and English writer, Bunyan comprised this during the time in which he was imprisoned for preaching the word of God. This makes good sense because of the timing of it all. If there were ever to be a good time for a person to consider their life as it was and eventual death that would one day come, it would be the time in which they were imprisoned if they were ever to find themselves in such a situation. Bunyan seemingly wrote this allegorical story to track the main character’s journey that would eventually lead him to find his salvation. As the author uses an allegorical style, he apologizes for it in the preface of the text but it actually saves the reader. Allegory uses symbolism as a disguised representation for meanings. Without allegory, the characters would have names that could easily take on the persona of any one person. The characters that Bunyan utilizes in this piece truly appear to be universal. The personalities of the characters that were conveyed could have been found just as easily in 1678 as they could in the present day. Carl Rollyson states that John Bunyan was a Puritan who wrote about every earnest Christian’s continuous search for salvation (394). The primary purpose was not only to spread the word, but to continue to strengthen faith and win souls as well. The author was fascinated with the ideas that backed the human experience. Evidence of this comes from some of the names that were assessed to his allegorical characters. These personalities such as Mr. Feeble-Mind, Mr. Talkative, Mr. Money-Love, and Mr. Save-All were just a few that were created from involvement in everyday life. Likewise, the allegorical stops in the way such as Valley of Humiliation, Slough of Despond, Vanity, and the Delectable Mountains can be closely compared to places…

On Ash Wednesday 2004 The Passion of the Christ directed by Mel Gibson was released for the world to view. This movie is Gibson’s depiction of the last twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem. Some commentators find the film overwhelmingly violent, while others argue that the media exaggerated the violence within the film and found the movie entertaining, educational and gave a true understanding of the word passion that other films fail to express. A third set of reactions have less to do with the severity of violence shown within the film and more to do with the special effects, amount of violence that audiences around the world expect from a movie of this magnitude and exactly how accurate the film portrays the story.…
