My purpose this week was to observe translations in the 3rd grade classroom at Moss elementary with a female teacher named Ms. Bowens. As i arrive to Ms. Bowens classroom i noticed the 3rd grade students knew how to work on the math problems on their own while the teacher allows the students to talk amongst their assigned group. As the students work on their assignment the teacher walks around the classroom helping the students that doesn't understand a question by going to each group.…
Blue made sure to see that the students were receiving positive feedback. When each of the students entered the room, they retrieved their binders and all sat down quietly. Each of the students were very respectful to each other in that whenever someone raised their hand to speak, they were the only ones who spoke. There was no character development program or a posted set of rules displayed in her classroom. In her classroom she did the majority of the talking while the students listened and answered her questions. In the high school classroom, there was quite a bit of talking and disruption among the students in the beginning. There were many students who were up and walking around while he was discussing the homework. There was no character development in the classroom. Mr. G didn’t seem tell really be listening to his students, one student had to repeat his question three times. Each teacher provided a way to show respect and understanding to their students, and then the other showed a class room that didn’t have much respect for each…
My week starts on Thursday after work. I get home do my daily routine and then start reviewing the week that I have ahead. I start of by going through the Leaning Guide for Unit 3, where it tells me all the tasks I have for the week and produces a checklist that I should complete by the end of the week. My first task was to peer review the writing assignment for Unit 2. Therefore, that was what I did first and this did not take long. I was surprised because most of the students did not get the answers correct, or they left it incomplete. When I saw the answers, I knew I had gotten three of them wrong and I was so furious because I was unsure of the answers that I produced at first, and I had changed them several times. One student got 2/7, and the other two got 3/7. This make me think that most of the students do not understand the material. I’m not saying I understand everything but I always try to attempt every question rather than leaving it incomplete.…
The essay 'The Role of the Teacher' written by Irving Layton reviews the current state of our ever criticized school system. The author shows us how we view the problems of the school system and explains how and why we place blame on teachers. He shows how 'penny-pinching school boards'(p145) are the real ones to blame and not the teaches whom are the easiest to confront. 'A feeling has grown that schools and universities are not achieving that which they were intended: namely , the enrichment of the individuals life by giving him the tools of self improvement and the cultivated mind to use them'(p145) is how most people view the school board and what the author is trying to discuss. The author uses a logical pattern and an expository purpose. The author uses opinion based format for this essay.…
So Erik follow along with what the students were saying and got in trouble. 4. For all three students, explain how their peers’ perceptions of them could be negatively affected because of their language disorder. For Lela they make think she is rude because she just joined the game without asking. And with Libby the may think she is weird because she gets mad at people for no reason.…
I have conducted my field of experience at Westside Elementary School, second and third grade classroom. The third grade class consists of 20 students. The teacher does not have any aide even though she needs some assistance, because two of her students are falling behind. The sad part about this is that the students have not being diagnosed yet, but they are having a lot of difficulties. The teacher mentioned that by fourth or fifth grade those two students will need to be placed in a special education classroom. The students both have a concentration problem and it causes them to struggle with reading, writing, math, listening, and speaking. The teacher asked me to focus on and help these two students, while observing the rest of the class. On my second day, I went to Mrs. Bellamy’s Classroom; a second grade teacher. In this paper I am detonating the two different teaching styles that I observed, and the way the student are responding.…
We are parents and we are writing to inform you of a problem with AP US History 11 class. We know that you are aware that there is a problem in this class because met with you on Friday about the problem. He is not the only one that has a problem with her. We know that other people have complained about her also. Since school has started has come home and told us things that would happen in her class. We would say maybe she is just having a bad day. We tried to give her a chance because we knew that she was new to this class. We know that this is an AP class so the students in this class are the ones that care about their grades. We have read email to you and we agree with him. Changes need to be made in her class. is all about an easy class but this class has no pattern. They never know what she is going to do next. She may give them a test on something they have not even studied. They do not even have text books to use. Isn't there some kind of curriculum for an AP US History class? They will be taking the AP exam at the end of the year and she has not taught them anything that will help them with that exam. All we as parents hear is that it is good for our kids to take an AP class because if they are able to pass the AP exam at the end of the year then they will receive college credit for that class. Does it not seem like there would at least be some kind of text books the students would need? When she gives them homework she just tells them to Google it or find out the answer from a class mate. Now how would anyone know the answers because it is obvious she is not teaching them? She also calls them retarded and we do not appreciate that. When came home and told us about her pre writing the whole class up that was the last straw. Also was assigned to be the teacher that day. She did not even give him any material to teach with. I guess since she doesn’t use any material to teach with she thinks the students don’t need…
5-7 Adequate effort. The student interacts with the text, but may struggle to dig deep. The student may circle and define unknown or challenging words. Margin notes show that the reader is using some reading strategies to improve comprehension.…
As the school cleared out in an incredible 7 minutes, teachers and few students were left in the school gathering their things. We stopped in a Language Arts teacher’s class. The teacher, Mrs. Kelly Pederson, who looked as if she was going to rip all of her hair out and possibly already got a head start, gladly spoke to us not only about her IB students but about her 9th grade students as well.…
Anything from A-Z that involves school is a bad habit that I have to deal with. I mean everything about school annoys me. That means teachers, rules, and parking, finding paper to write on. I was saying to my best school bud Jared, the following questions. Where we were hanging out by the food truck complaining about how lunch is only 35 minutes and it just isn’t enough time to have lunch. It’s a hassle to get to school on time. What’s the deal with teachers assigning homework? Why do I take pointless classes that won’t affect me in the future? Why do I enable my teacher’s mind determine what grades I get on assignments? As my sixth grade teacher once told us, “ lets examine this further under our educational microscope.” To analyze and dissect this complicated matter.…
Freshman year is never an easy year, especially when you're the new girl. Aliyah wanted to incinerate her past and have a fresh start; she would be a stranger to all of them. Once she arrived to her new locker, she had a difficult time accessing it. After the twentieth time, she was finally able to open her locker and put all her supplies inside. On her way to her first class, she had overheard that the math teacher assigned arduous assignments causing an abundance of students to drop out within the first week. Mrs.Katra, the math teacher, gave a "I've been doing this for 35 years, I know all the tricks" speech for 30 minutes and gave us a homework assignment afterwards; at first glance it didn't seem difficult but after looking at it for a while, Aliyah began to feel uneasy about the class. She usually liked challenges and was intrepid but school was important to her and she didn't want to disappoint her parents.…
During my tenth grade year my English class always flowed smoothly. As a class we were never really required to do much more than babysit ourselves. There were countless days we sat in class and did simple worksheets on the book Night by Elie Wiesel which I had read in the eighth grade. Not realizing this was an English class it felt like kindergarten all over again. I had even considered it to be the best class period through my first two years of high school. It was chill, easy, and, comfortable. That comfortableness had not only crippled me but was what played a key part in my eleventh grade misery. That’s when it had all started.…
My literacy journey had a very interesting beginning. I am a first generation Mexican American, and as being first generation my first language is Spanish, everyone I interacted with when I was young was family or Hispanic. I picked up on some English from watching kid shows but I never really knew what the words meant. Prior to starting preschool, the school got me and my mother into an ELL summer class to get a head start on the school year. Up until around first grade or so I always had to meet with the ELL teacher to check on my progress and make sure I was doing okay in school.…
I believe students need to learn how to express themselves which ELL students need help with communication skills. I know I need help with communicating and providing a response to the question. I have seen quite a few students struggle with communication, they have trouble expressing their thoughts and ideas. I want to give them that voice because boarding school has taught our students to keep their mouths close and not express their prior knowledge. Another thing we do not do is questioning, we are taught not to ask questions which hindered our children rather than it being a good…
It is imperative that a teacher has a sound understanding of the subject matter that is being delivered, if a student produces material or spoken language that is incorrect the teacher has to have the ability to not only give a correct version, but also to explain clearly and concisely to the student and class why the original material given by the student was incorrect, this is of course only possible if the teachers own knowledge is complete and accurate, the teacher should be able to provide an efficient and thorough explanation and deliver accurate guidance.…
