Kirk Franklin I Smile
The song of my choice was Kirk Franklin I Smile. This is a gospel song that can forever brighten my dull days with just the melody but for the most part the lyrics. I smile is a meaningful song to me for many reason; it represent how a person can go through the most hardest times and his or her life and some will never know because of how the display themselves on the outside. The chorus of the song is a great example of how people hide their hurt and pain by smiling. Alongwith how through everything God gives them the strength to keep that smile and not frown.
I chose this song for the strength and courage it brings to me and those around me. When I was little me and my family was faithful at church on sundays. As we go older we stop going as much beside for like Easter sunday and other special occasions. On sunday morning before and after church gospel was the only songs I heard on sundays. When I was younger I didn't really enjoy gospel music, but as me and my family face conflict after conflict in one

Whenever I feel low and discourage I play this song. I play it when I accomplish some of my goals. I play it on my way to a track meet to uplift my spirits. Along with when things don’t go as planned, and I overstress myself I click on youtube and go to my gospel playlist and turn the volume up to the max and my mood literally changes in a flip of a second. I remember one time I was having a really bad day and so I isolated myself in my room for the whole day. I don’t remember exactly what made me upset; I think it was a fews things because I rarely get angry but yeah, then I turn on this lovely song and boom! Mood change. I went into the bathroom and was looking at myself in the mirror. I seen how mad and upset I looked and I just smiled. One thing I know is that no matter how sad or angry I am I Smile along with a couple other gospel songs will forever uplift me and bring a smile to my face it literally never ever

Chris Tomlin’s worship songs have been sung my millions of people all over the world; in fact Time called him “Most Likely the Most Often Sung Artist Anywhere.” Songs like “Everlasting God,” and “How Great Is Our God,” have been quintessential to the language of the church, overcoming denominational difference to bring us together in one voice. So what is next on the agenda for the Grammy Award winner? Well, he’s bringing Worship Night in America to three major cities across the nation this summer, and it’s more than a feel-good concert.…

Prohibition did bring even more negative influences than just seen. It had created a unique and illegal nightlife. Brave drinkers went to speakeasies where they drank alcohol. Speakeasies were disguised as different things in a town or city like a funeral home (Muscoreil). To enter the doorman had to remember you,or you said a password, and this is where speakeasy term derives from. New York City had some of the most expensive speakeasies. They were fashionable and gourmet meals were served with the illegal alcohol. ‘21 Club’ was one of the very distinguished speakeasies during this time period (Slavicek). To hide the alcohol, nightclubs went from saloons to homes. Hosts used additives to hide the illegal activity but still get the alcohol. Americans…

This past Sunday I went to Snyder Moral Baptist church to hear the music of Joel Raney. Joel is a very emotional performer I could tell he is very in touch with God. While I was there I learned that he began his career in Alabama by cutting his teeth on hymns and gospel music. He attended Juilliard School in NYC where he also worked in musical theater for a time. Listening to Joel’s music made me feel closer to God, he made me think about the finer things in life through his music. Like having a close relationship with God and letting God know I am what he has made me to be. He made me think about my faith a lot more about how being a Christian isn’t all about showing up at church. Being a Christian is…

In music, I compare my troubles and tribulations with the lyrics. Towards the middle of the piece, it begins to build up. When I was around 9 years old, my mom passed away from failure to receive a liver transplant. This hit my family hard and to this day, we are still haunted by the day God took her away. Since this is the middle of the piece, it's starting to have emotion and deep feelings within it. Anger, hurt, and sorrow was what I was feeling when my mom passed away. I was confused and mad at the world. I didn't quite understand why people had to die since I was only 9 after all. There was always a question of why and to this day, there still is.…

When you first hear gospel music and the blues, you can't help noticing how different they are in mood and in the stories they tell. Blues songs are sad, full of heartbreak and disappointment. They talk about everyday problems like losing a job or a girlfriend, like having no money or no friends. Gospel songs, on the other hand, are the happiest songs you'll ever hear, full of joy and hope. Unlike the blues, gospel songs tell about the power of faith in tunes so catchy, they make you want to get up and dance.…

As I get older, I grow and learn new things each year and as time goes on I realize that there’s not always going to be times of immeasurable joy and laughter. It’d be nice if there was but that’s not how life is. Happiness that’s present in my life is because of God and how straightforward his word is. As a christian, I know that once I’m saved, there is absolutely no one that can take that away from me. Even when I’m going through the storm, the sure promises of God carry me through. You may ask yourself, “ Why would I want to rejoice over anything when I’m going through the worst of times?” Well, when you take time to realize what’s around you, you come to find that you are truly blessed. Everyone that is in my school and church all have supportive families and christian families. None of us have to deal with communism and we’re free to pick our religion. Nevertheless, some of still choose to complain and be discontent with what we have. Everyone of us needs to take a step back and look at the blessings we have in our lives and cherish the things that make us happy. That’s something that is at the core of my…

“While gospel music is strongly entrenched in the African American "folk church" tradition, it also attracts many who identify as much with its expression of African American values, aesthetics, and life experiences as with its expression of religion” (Jackson). Gospel music has contributed many ways to the people outside of the church community. It helps draw in people who have no understanding of Jesus. Gospel music has a certain connection of drawing you close to lyrics and the story behind each word. Some have an upbeat to it which makes you want to dance to it. While as other forms of gospel music has a certain sultry to it which makes you cry and thank God for allowing from getting out of that certain situation. A lyric in any form of music is how you draw your audience to listen to your music. However, the beat and the sound that goes along with the lyrics is also a major key into music. “Artist today employed more frequents us of personal pronouns, testimony and emotional, romantic poetry in their music” (Doucette…

For my song I picked Garth Brooks “The River.” I consider this song to be very meaningful. This song is about chasing your dreams and never giving up on what you believe in, reminding us that life is shorter than we think and if we just stand on the shore watching the river go by, then life will be gone before we know it. Garth Brooks uses a lot of psychological concepts in this song, such as, Attitude, Affect, Motivation, Optimism, and Behavior. Garth Brooks says, “A dream is like a river.” A dream changes, just like a river changes. As life changes, the river can be calm then strong then calm again, so our path in life change. Garth Brooks says that “He will sail his vessel until the river runs dry.” To me this mean no matter what life throws…

The genre developed in urban areas where blacks had moved from rural communities (76). Also, gospel musicians became very popular during the 1950s, and gospel music was clearly recognized as a form of entertainment. Gospel music includes both sacred and secular aspects, and appeals to people outside of the church. Unfortunately, this genre poses lots of problems in the African American liturgy. Often when gospel music is led by choirs or soloists, the congregation is relegated into the status of audience rather than as active participants. This shifts the focus of worship from God to the performers. Nonetheless, gospel music still persists within African American worship due to vital role it played, and continues to play in the 21st…
