Kite Runner Book Comparison
In the book version of The Kite Runner there are a couple pages that briefly mention the attack on the Twin Towers and quickly touch on the character’s observations and roles during this event; however, this was not included in the film. The author may have included this information in the book as a reference in time and possibly to emphasize that no matter what is happening in our everyday lives the world will continue around us. Nevertheless, this scene was most likely cut from the movie as it was not an essential part of the story and was not required in order for the film version to advance.

The story opens in pre-Taliban Kabul, Afghanistan. The protagonist, Amir, is recalling events from his childhood. He lived a lavish life with his father, Baba, and their servant, Ali and his son Hassan. Hassan and Amir grew up together and were almost like brothers, however Ali and Hassan belonged to the religious minority group, the Shias, and Baba and Amir, Sunni Muslims, superior. The different religious sects made it difficult for the boys to be real friends, despite their many character similarities and personal connection to one another. Hassan and Amir had a lot in common, such as the fact that they both grew up without a mother. Though they were raised with different beliefs, they were brought up together, and spent their entire childhoods making memories with each other.…

The overarching theme of Kite Runner is redemption. Taking that in the violence and misery incorporated in the book was necessary. With its use a realistic picture of Afghanistan and decisions that could lead to regret one almost forgets it’s a work of fiction. The violence, especially regarding the rape of Hassan and Sohrab, was written so detailed that it leaves scars on the reader. It fully captures the readers and embeds the feeling of guilt Amir holds, into ones conscience. It is almost as if the readers themselves is Amir instead of just following his story line.…

In the first ten chapters of The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini focuses on the theme “Friendships take years to build, but only moments to destroy”. For example, Amir and Hassan have been friends since they were born, they built their friendship until the day of the kit fighting tournament. When Hassan ran the runner ups kite he ran into Assef, who was seeking revenge for being insulted by Hassan earlier in the year. Assef deemed that rape would be a proper punishment for the insult. Unbeknownst to Assef as well as Hassan Amir was watching everything. If he wanted to, he could have intervened and stopped his revenge but chose to watch instead, ruining his friendship instantly. Ali and Baba’s grew up together, and therefore had a sturdy friendship that almost nothing could ruin. Feeling ashamed about not intervening between Assef and Hassan had scarred Amir, for he could no longer look at Hassan as a friend. Because of this, Amir planted money in Hassan’s bed and made it look like he stole if from him. This resulted in Ali becoming so ashamed of Hassan that they moved out of the house.…

This quote is one of the remarkable quotes of this book. It is used in the beginning of the novel to make it more interesting. The choice of using this quote was very smart, since it explains a lot of the plots just in one sentence. This was said by Rahim Khan who is very close to Amir. He is a person Amir respects very much and he is the one who tells Amir about his dad and Hassan being his step brother. This quote brings out the feeling of guilt Amir was feeling for so long time. But Rahim Khan insisted that Amir goes back to Kabul and get Hassan’s son out of the orphanage and bring him back to America to atone for his sin he had done when he was twelve. It also explains that no matter what you have done…

I really liked Romeo and Juliet because of the amount of irony and foreshadowing in the text. For instance, Romeo says “I dreamt my lady came and found me dead. And breathed such life with kisses in my lips”(V.i.6-9). This is an obvious example of foreshadowing to the upcoming scene where Juliet believes that Romeo is dead, and tries to take the poison from his lips. This quote is also a reference to Mercutio’s Queen Mab speech about how dreamers usually see what they want to see in dreams. I like this quote because it relates something from the past to the future through the present and connects everything together. Another thing that I liked was the amount of irony, which is present in Romeo’s choices from the very beginning of the novel where he firsts states that he is in love with Rosaline by saying “that the all-seeing sun ne’er saw her match since the world first begun”(I.iii.99-100). In this scene we find Romeo pining for Rosaline and saying that there is no one in the world more beautiful than her in the world; but then he somehow instantaneously gets over her after seeing Juliet, where he states that he has “ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (I.v.60). I like irony between these statements because it gives the audience…

    1. The flashback is used to give a history behind the story and also background information about the author. Based on the narrator, I learned that he does not have a mother and his father is very popular in his town. In the first chapter, the description of the winter day in 1975 sounds as if the narrator is hiding something as well. They might be burying their past, but it also states that it always claws its way out, foreshadowing an event that might occur. He also moved to San Francisco to get away or avoid thinking about the past.…

Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner tells the haunting tale of redemption and how one choice could lead to a life regret and guilt. The Kite Runner Ending

    • 508 Words
    • 3 Pages

The final chapter of ‘The Kite Runner is a deeply emotional and reflective one. It interchanges between a retrospective and current set of events. The mood also varies from positive to negative throughout the chapter, signifying the emotional roller coaster that Amir has been forced to endure since his childhood. Although now, at 38 years of age, he is much wiser and calculated and this is shown here, he appreciates the so called littler things in life and takes as much enjoyment out of life as possible. “It was only a smile, nothing more.” Here, we can sense the jubilation in Amir’s voice as he witnesses a smile from Sohrab. The reader may initially think that this is something so mundane and ordinary that it doesn’t warrant such an overdramatic response, but given the recent silence that Sohrab has put himself under ever since arriving in America, all Amir is doing is appreciating what he clearly feels as a wonderful moment. “But I’ll take it. With open arms. Because when spring comes, it melts the snow one flake at a time, and maybe I just witnessed the first flake melting.” Here we see Amir applying his wisdom in a metaphorical sense, as he hopes the smile is a sign that Sohrab’s characterisation is about to alter and that he will become a more happier person. Of course, this then allows the reader to warm to the two characters.…
