Kite Runner Quote Analysis

In the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini he shows how the past can affect your future and present day. Hosseini shows this by using a motif he has created at the beginning of the novel. This motif is about when Amir was watching Hassan getting raped and doing nothing about it, and then guilt falls on him after doing nothing. When Amir watched Hassan getting raped, he did nothing about it and it ruined his friendship between each other. In the quote “I hit with another pomegranate, in the shoulder this time… then Hassan walked toward me. He opened it and crushed it against his own forehead… ‘Are you satisfied? Do you feel better?”(Hosseini 92-93).In this quote it shows Amir's frustration over what he did, and how he wants to tell Hassan but he can’t because he is ashamed and afraid of what he did. Even though Amir was hitting Hassan with pomegranates over and over Hassan did nothing to fight back but Amir kept attacking him. When Hassan did nothing to fight
In the quote “I remember wondering if Hassan too had married.”(171) “I drifted to sleep. And dreamed of Hassan running in the snow.”(194).In these two quotes it shows that he never stops thinking of Hassan even though he is sleeping, and that even though it’s been thirty years he still dreams about him and what happened. Another quote “I almost told her how I’d betrayed Hassan, lied, driven him out.”(165).Even when Amir has the love of his life he still can tell what he did. He can’t do it because he is scared and has no courage. In the quote “I didn’t care about Soraya’s past, because I had one of my own.”(180). What we see in this quote is that Amir is trying to think of Soraya’s past to get rid of his but his keeps coming back and never goes away. Even though it been thirty years and you moved to America and married your loved one, the past is always going to come back to you even if you try to not think about
