The mission of Apple Incorporated is to design Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad. Tim Cook is Apple’s CEO, and they have appointed different Senior VP positions. Angela Ahrendts is the SVP of Retail and Online Stores, Eddy Cue is the SVP for Internet Software and Services, Craig Federighi is the SVP for Software Engineering, Jonathan Ive is the SVP for Design, Luca Maestri is the SVP and chief Financial Officer, Dan Riccio is the SVP for Hardware Engineering, Philip Schiller is the SVP for Worldwide Marketing, Bruce Sewell is the SVP for General Counsel, and Jeff Williams is the SVP for Operations.
Apple appears to have a Hierarchical and Rational Culture, because they seem to be concerned with being stable and having control. Apple tries to dominate the technology industry by being more innovative and creative than other companies that it competes with. They also do not take as long as other companies to come up with their next new and improved product. However, their products are usually only compatible with other Apple brands, which limits the customer’s versatile use, unlike other company’s that produce products that can be used with many different brands. Apple is efficient in producing a new product within a consistent timely matter. Every year Apple at least produces one new product, even though they may have a couple of bugs in the beginning, that does not stop consumers from purchasing their items. Also Apple strategically plans when to release a product. By having such a large foundation of customers, they are capable of releasing an iPhone in September, and releasing another one in February, and still receive a substantial amount of income from either phone.
The company culture I would like to work for would be the Group and Adhocracy culture. They emphasize in flexibility, growth, resource acquisition, change and being built on values and norms. Having a business built off of values and norms would make it easier to predict what would happen if the company removed or added an asset to the business. Also these types of cultures would put resources in places that need them, instead of purchasing resources and having them sit in a resource room for a long period of time. Also this type of company would always be willing to adapt to change and figure out ways in which the company could spend money wisely, while at the same time still produce quality material.
