They recorded the song for the sound track of Days of Thunder. Rendering the Lyrics of Dylan the same, Guns and Roses adds their touch of artistic style by changing out the nostalgic sound of an acoustic guitar for the high droning, very loud sounds of the electric guitar. Yet in the movie, The Days of Thunder there are two young racecar drivers competing with each other who later become friends and one of them faces the end of his career or if he chooses to do what he loves, he could face death. The song “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” seems to be seamless for this movie as well as Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid movie. Continuing with theme of chasing death and making a choice, a person is left dwelling on the melancholic thought of leaving this world and quite possibly before his or her time. In spite of that diversity, those who recorded it there is still a drawing that leaves you pondering the afterlife or even death. Whether it is actual death or maybe the choice of giving up a career or laying down a burden the experience of facing those things, can leave a person sickened with sorrow. Although “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” could be interpreted the door of death or the door to the next life it is still the thought of eternity and what happens next. In regards to the darkness is there a way to gain peace before death. In reality, I believe that the song is about searching for peace in malevolence of the death that is coming. However, in the end “Knockin on Heaven’s Door” still leaves you with the enigma of death, heaven and the afterlife.
