Kontroversi Film Balibo

Kontroversi film Balibo kini mulai merebak.
Berbagai lembaga swadaya masyarakat masih menuntut

“Films from down under are going, well, down and under”(Humphries S cited in Kaufman T, 2009). This essay will confirm there is a crisis is the Australian Film Industry through exploring the economic, political and cultural factors that led to the crisis. The current economic climate and political decisions have had a significant impact on the Australian film industry, leading to lower production rates of overseas films in Australia. The internal and external cultural factors will be explored to highlight the responsibility the Australian public and the industry had and how failing to meet these responsibilities has further deepened the already unfortunate circumstances in the industry. However there are economical, political and cultural factors that have led to the crisis in the industry; this essay will also explore why it is called a ‘crisis’. Thus exploring the loss of jobs, the lack of Australian films being produced, and most importantly the erosion of a sense of national identity that Australian’s gain through Australian cinema. Recent successful Australian films ‘Australia’ (Luhrmaan B, 2008) and ‘Black Balloon’ (Down E, 2008) represents the quality that films should be produced to create a successful industry; this reinforces the sense of nationhood at risk of being lost.…

    Review of Film 'Opera Java'

During my stay in Indonesia I was introduced to more traditional forms of arts here: theatre through ketoprak is closest to definition of ‘western’ theatre, wayang orang – staged Ramayana based theatre and wayang kulit which can be roughly defined as leather theatre play which is based mainly from stories from Mahabharata epic; dance through variety of court and profane dances, music via traditional gamelan and popular music genres such as pop, rock, punk. Paintings and sculptures are new form and for me the most challenging one to meet and to witness their evolution. Because my knowledge of Indonesian language is still low, thus I wasn’t into Indonesian literature and in my country only one author is translated. One form of art is missing and I find it important in my life? It is a film. While staying here I was always curious to see and in that form to learn Indonesian language. I find more American (and English-speaking movies) with Indonesian subtitles then other way around. And while people were convincing me to go and to see the best Indonesian movie ever – ‘The Raid: Redemption” I was trying to convince them to watch and to explain to me best Indonesian movie for me ‘The requiem for Java’. I failed. So, I watch a movie alone and decided to investigate more about it for this paper where I will also put my opinion about this movie. I divide a paper into several parts. First part about director, second part is about technical aspects of movie, third reception of a movie from reviews in English I could find on Internet, fourth is about elements in movie – traditional Javanese dances and classical story of Ramayana shaped in this story and last fifth part is my review and conclusion about this film.…

The emergence of new and highly-advanced cameras in the market and the advancement of technology have spawned the growth of indie films. This allowed anyone to create his or her own film in accordance to his or her own style without the influences of mainstream movies, which indeed have good effects on the film industry, especially in the Philippines. These films became more noticed and more important and they have saved the slowly dying film industry (Makuha, 2010).…

Countless Filipinos often appreciate foreign movies rather than be pleased about our own local works. Foreign film is not only foreign in terms of the country of production, but also in terms of the language used. We can see in our entertainment industry that art pieces from other countries are much preferable. As we all know, foreign movies are so popular here in our country, Filipino nowadays are getting interested in foreign films because stories were usually based from bestselling novels, natural phenomenon and futuristic plot. We watch movies for relaxation from stress, entertainment, and learning or reinforcing one’s linguistic skills in relative languages. Films also referred to as motion pictures, involves projecting a series of images into the screen to create an illusion of motion. It is one of the most popular forms of entertainment, enabling people to immerse in an imaginary world for a short period (Olaleye, 2007). The popularity of foreign films in general can be attributed to the fact that they use the most modern technology.
