Santosh Yadav is an Indian mountaineer. She is the first woman in the world to climb Mount Everest twice in less than a year[1] and the first woman to successfully climb Mt Everest from Kangshung Face.[2] She first climbed the peak in May 1992 and then did it again in May 1993.
Early life and education[edit]
She was born in 10 October, 1967 in Joniyawas Village Rewari District of Haryana state in India, as the sixth child in a family with five sons. She is an alumna of Maharani College, Jaipur. Living in Kasturba Hostel she joined Uttarkashi's Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. While studying she prepared herself to climb two great peaks namely, mountaineering and Indian Civil Services and was successful in both. She prepared for her IAS exams in a hostel provided by Indian Mountaineering Federation at Connought Place, New Delhi. At barely twenty years of age, Santosh Yadav scaled Mt. Everest, becoming the youngest woman in the world to achieve this feat (In the 1992 Everest Mission). Within twelve months, she became a member of an Indo- Nepalese Women's expedition, and scaled the Everest the second time, thus setting the record as the only woman to have scaled the Everest Twice. Currently she is an officer in Indo-Tibetan Border Police. She was conferred the Padma Shri award in 2000. She was part of the nine-nation international climbing camp-cum-expedition to Nun Kun in 1989.

In 1999, Santosh Yadav led an Indian mountaineering expedition to Kangshung Face, Mt. Everest.[3]
In 2001, she led mountaineering team to East Face, Mt. Everest.[3]
