Lean Six Sigma - Tools and Techniques

Method | Description | Benefits | Tools | Balanced Scorecard | Balanced Scorecard is a management system — not a measurement system. It has 4 parameters (legs). a. Customer Scorecard b. Financial Scorecard c. Internal Business Process Scorecard d. Knowledge, Education, and Growth Scorecard | | | 5S Assessment | * Sort >> Set-order / Stabilize >> Shine >> Standardize >> Sustain * 5S is a process and method for creating and maintaining an organized, clean, and high performance workplace. * 5S enables anyone to distinguish between normal and abnormal conditions at a glance. * 5S is the foundation for continuous improvement, zero defects, cost reduction, and a safe work area. * 5S is a systematic way to improve the workplace, processes and products through production line employee involvement. * 5S can be used in Six Sigma for quick wins as well as control. * 5S should be one of the Lean tools that should be implemented first. If a process is in total disarray, it does not make sense to work on improvements. The process needs to be first organized (stabilized) and then improved. | | | Standard Work | Standard work is work in which the sequence of job elements has been efficiently organized and is repeatedly followed by a team member. It is an important prerequisite for successful implementation of Kaizen and many other aspects of Six Sigma. * Clearly document steps in the process and include images if possible * Should be done by the persons responsible for the work * Audit the process to check this is being followed. | * Ensures predictable output each time * Reduces process variation * Improves performance * Stepping stone for future improvements * Employee involvement and empowerment * Improved, consistent quality * Work process stability * Increased employee safety * Improved cost management as wastes are removed * A great tool for staff
