When at room temperature, krypton is a gas. It has a melting point of 115.75 Kelvin, a freezing point of 115.78 Kelvin, and a boiling point of 119.75 Kelvin.
One major use for krypton is in krypton-based bulbs. Krypton’s multiple emission lines make ionized krypton gas discharges appear whitish, which in turn makes krypton-based bulbs useful in photography as a brilliant white light source. Krypton is used in some photographic flashes for high speed photography. Another use is still krypton-based bulbs. An important lighting use is also in high-powered, flashing airport runway lights.
