This essay is about Zhu Rongji, the former Premier of the People’s Republic of China(PRC). First, I will talk about his biography, how he became the Premier of the PRC. Second, I will talk about the various policies carried by him and its effectiveness including how he tackle the problem of corruption and inflation, and how these policies can improve the competitiveness of China and improve Chinese livins standard.
Biography:
Zhu was born in 1928 in Changsha, located in Hunan Province. He joined the communist party in 1949. He served as the deputy head in Northern China Department of Industries in 1951. During the Great Leap Forward( 1958-1961), Zhu strongly criticized the policy adapt by Mao and argued the policies were ineffectiveness in solving the problem of underproduction, and he were purged and labeled as a ‘rightist’ by Mao in 1957 because he didn’t support him. Later he pardoned in 1962 and were purged again from 1966 to 1976 because he didn’t fully support the Cultural Revolution. In 1976, when Deng Xiaoping was doing his economic reform, he found Zhu and restore his membership to the Chinese Communist Party. He became the mayor of Shanghai from 1989 to 1991 and was promoted to the Vice Premier. He served as the governor of the People’s Bank of China and the Premier of State Council later on. During 1990 to 2000, he proposed different policies to enhance China’s competitiveness and facilitated a better business environment( Mack, 2011).
