Kyla Bennett Marshall: A Case Study
Before I go any further, I’d like to apologize for emailing you on a Sunday. You may have noticed that I e-introduced you to two accepted applicants on Friday. Kyla Bennett Marshall named the cost of UACT as a potential barrier to her acceptance of Teach For America’s offer. I looped you in because I am compelled to believe that Kyla would benefit from a conversation with you. Specifically, it would be helpful for her to understand the value add proposition of having a University of Washington certificate. Here’s a bit of background information about Kayla:
• University of Washington Alum (school of law and undergrad)
• Current Job: Benton County- Civil Division Prosecuting Attorney
• Wife & Mother of 2 children

Moving along, the other accepted applicant is Travis O’Connor. Travis has named the Master’s Program as a key motivation to join us in WA. During our call, he was taken aback by the fact that distance learning is not offered. Also, he named that as a barrier to accepting an offer in South Central Washington. I voiced over the fact that he has the option of completing the program in the summer. Unfortunately, my context is very limited when it comes to the course work or the experience of individuals who’ve completed coursework over the summer. I connected you to him because I assume that you would be provide more information about the Master’s option.

Do you have availability over the next two to three days to engage in a 20-30 minute call with Kyla? It would be greatly appreciated if you could fill the gaps and help them remove or lower their barriers. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or
