Reinforcing Effects of drugs - Some people enjoy the positive effect of certain substances like feeling floaty, but they should take the negative effects into consideration like drowsiness, hangovers, dizziness etc.
Withdrawal effects and cravings - When quitting a substance the first 2 weeks are critical in determining quitting failure rate, people with addictions should seek help in order to quit their nasty habit. Withdrawal Symptoms include: sweating, dizziness, drowsiness and nausea.

Peer Pressure - Friends teasing you about not doing drugs, smoking or abusing alcohol and telling you, you are a loser and not wanting to be friends with you unless you abuse substances like they do. You want to fit in and therefore you abuse substances. If friends ever think you are a loser for not abusing substances you should find different friend who are good influences on you.
Curiosity - Wondering what it is like to abuse a certain substance and thus abusing it to feel how it feels, and to have experience with the substance you abused, Really wanting to know how it is to abuse the substance can make you lose your self control.
Sensation Seeking - Wanting to experience something different, wanting change in your life possibly because of having a bland, boring lifestyle and needing some thrill in your life. If someone wants to relieve stress they should talk to someone and maybe join a gym to be able to relieve stress in a healthy and environmentally friendly way.
Being Bullied - Wanting the emotional or physical pain to go away and finding the only method to be substance abuse, which is not true if you are being bullied you should tell someone of more authority like a teacher or a parent and let them help you sort the problem out, but some people are too shy or ashamed to ask for help and therefore just abuse substances.
Wanting To Be Like Other People - Wanting to be like cool, popular people by imitating some of their unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking or doing drugs. People have a social need to fit in and be loved and feel the sense of belonging and thus trying to be like people who have their social need
