LPZ Vs. St. Louis Zoo
STLZ vs LPZ by: Laura B. (St. Louis Zoo and Lincoln Park Zoo)
I know, I know. Everyone wants to go to some expensive zoo that doesn’t do anything but rob them. Well, then let’s try a zoo that’s free but is rated five star. Because although many people think that zoos are all the same, St Louis zoo and Lincoln Park zoo are very different.
Well first let’s compare prices. I can tell you this much. LPZ is free! STLZ is also free but you need to pay for some attractions. I mean isn’t that way better than some zoo that you have to pay for? Then let’s look at hours. The St. Louis zoo is open from nine to five while the lincoln park zoo is open from ten to four thirty.
The distance from STLZ to Eureka is about 184 miles. Which is about 4 hours and 5 minutes in the car.(This includes two thirty minutes potty breaks!!!!) The distance from LPZ to Eureka is about 141 miles. That is about 3 hours and 21 minutes in the car.(This also includes two potty breaks at thirty minutes each)
Now the two most important things. Animals and food. Food first. STLZ has 16 restaurants. These include some yummies like hot dogs, bacon hamburgers, pizza, chicken nachos and Dippin’ Dots. LPZ has only 6 restaurants to choose from but they have just as big

LPZ has a huge variety of animals. For the sake of time, paper and my poor hands, I will just list some of the newest arrivals at the zoo both imported and born. These animals include 2 Baer’s Pochards, a rare species of duck, which breeds in eastern Russia, northeastern China, and also Mongolia (see website for more), 2 young Puerto Rican parrots(the most endangered species of bird in the world), and a baby Bactrian camel. STLZ has 5 “regions” for animals. These “regions” are River’s Edge, The Wild, Discovery Corner, Historic Hill and Red Rocks. Some new animals are 2 baby giraffes and new to Grizzly Ridge are 2 baby grizzly

In the article The Stripes Will Survive by Jacqueline Adams, it talks about the species of tigers left in the world. It says that zoos are a place to keep animals safe. This is also about matching tigers. It tells the story of two tigers, and how they met. In The Zoos Go Wild from No More Dodos it is about a silverback gorilla who was trapped in a cage for most of his life, but then is free in a big conservation park.…

On Wednesday September 16th of 2015, I will be going to the Smithsonian National Zoo with a group of my friends. The Zoo was founded in 1889. It is one of the oldest zoos in the world. There are 1800 animals that live in the zoo. One of the most famous spots in the zoo for tourists to see is the Giant Panda exhibit. The giant pandas recently just gave birth to baby pandas. I have only been to the Smithsonian National Zoo once. I went in eighth grade for a school wide field trip. I love seeing animals and going to the zoo. Back where I am from (Delaware) there are not any zoos or big public attractions for young kids and teenagers.…

Firstly, the zoo provides animals with proper shelter, which is very important to help animals survive in certain conditions. Endangered species are those at immediate risk of going extinct. The primary factors leading to species becoming endangered include habitat loss, pollution, introduction of other species, and overexploitation. Living in an enclosed environment, the animals at the zoo have the opportunity to become safe from any predator that they would have to hide from in the wild. Also, certain animals cannot survive in assured weather conditions. That is why being able to live at the zoo, they are already provided with different shelters throughout different weather conditions that they can feel comfortable in. There are so many manmade dangers out in the wild that the animals at the zoo do not have to deal with. The recent construction of wind farms has created a unique challenge for different species (mainly bats) as well as climate change. It may pose a significant threat to certain species as well because it changes their migratory and hibernation patterns. Living at the zoo, species are being protected from wind farms and climate change because they are being held in captivity. Therefore, living at the zoo prevents them from…

Cages: Circuses travel constantly, which means the animals' cages are designed for transporting, not for animal welfare. If lions and tigers in zoos were kept in cages as small as those in circuses, it would be regarded as cruel. Many zoos have had to close because of inadequate living conditions for the animals. Circuses continue to keep animals in worse accommodation.…

. LA zoo is fantastic and there are plenty of animals to observe. The employees were friendly and provided educational facts to the public. This is the second time that I visit LA Zoo because I want to observe the activities and behavior of some selected primates. I spent most of the time observing all the animals and learning about them and their native habitats. LA Zoo is laid out by continental area, so the primate exhibits are scattered throughout the zoo. I began with the New World monkey located in the South American section of the zoo. In exhibit area 75, I saw three species of New World monkeys. All of these species have prehensile tails. These species are the black-handed spider monkey, black howler monkey, and crested capuchin monkey.…

As one can see, wild animals shouldn’t be anything other than wild animals. Keeping these animals caged up takes away from the way they should live. They shouldn't be captive for us humans to see, while they suffer. And in the midst of it all the zoo’s are the ones happy, making large profits everyday. Taking away your child freedom. Does that sound like something you’d want to happen to your…

Zoos appear to be fun, but as you get more in depth are they what they seem to be? If animals could talk they would answer that question with “no” but, they cannot. So, instead of them telling you the horrors of zoos, I will. In zoos, animals are forced to live in a small area and have to learn to adapt to a new lifestyle. Some animals suffer from serious problems that they would most likely not experience if they were not in a zoo. Zoos affect the animals wildlife, their natural behavior, and zoos cause injuries and deaths upon animals and humans.…

Zoos provide an invaluable service and therefore should not be closed. Zoos have rescued many injured animals and nourished them back to health. If a species is endangered, the species can be sent to a zoo to be kept safe. Also, keeping certain animals in zoos can help us learn more about them. Have you ever wondered where animals would be if they didn’t have a safe home like a zoo?…
