Hammurabi had 282 laws many with extremely harsh punishments like death. Hammurabi was the ruler of Babylon for 42 years and was thought to have gotten his laws from the god of justice Shamash. I believe that Hammurabi’s code was unjust because of the family law, property law, and the personal injury law. First of all, it is unjust because of the family laws. Law 148 states that if a man's wife wife is severely ill the man can remarry but he cannot divorce the ill wife and still has to take care of her.…
Many of us have seen that "Nobody's Perfect - But A Team Can Be" and we have seen a team produce a quality and quantity of work far higher than the sum of what the separate members could have produced on their own. The success of any Endeavour hinges on the behavior, talents, balance and cohesion of this management team. There are two main points when it comes to relevance of teams, the first is the recognition that human strengths usually bring countervailing weaknesses and the second is that some combinations of these roles have a greater probability of team success than others.…
By forming a team with different mix attributes of students, it allowed members to leverage each other skills and abilities to produce a quality work. As an example, a leader might not have the attributes of carer which concerned that everyone is fitting in and teamwork spirit is maintained. Therefore, it ensured work efficiency by leverage a person’s abilities or skills to work on a profession or area where we are lacking. During the team discussion, it actually added the…
3. Diversity of Skill and Personality: While managers should strive to have some consistencies in teams (i.e. See #1 and #2), bringing different people together who can offer different skills and perspectives will helps drive creativity and innovation. Moreover, it will help bring balance to the team in terms of tasks, people, risk and rules.…
Studying and working has been through a significant change since the early ages. Before teamwork was introduced, personal skill was the only attributes that employers or other people look for in a person. Now, they must look for teamwork, adaptability and communication. These aspects are important in any teamwork whether it is in the workforce or in schools similar to what Bolman suggest that ‘Much of the work in large organisations in now done in small groups or team. When those teams work badly, as they often do, they can block even the most talented individuals from realising their potential’ (Bolman et al, 1992); evidently, experiencing first hand the success, complications and failures of teamwork whilst collaborating for the presentation.…
Teams that are flexible and well versed in several areas are able to work with many subjects and ideas and cross them into other categories of business for potential uses. This allows technology and innovation to shine and thus the products that are created are all forward thinking.…
The members on an effective team are chosen with care, it is a well balance between talent and group skills. Talent is important, and you want to have a lot of this in your team. On September 8, my Career Leadership Academy Class was asked to attend a team workshop where we would not only work on our own leadership skills, but we would put them to use in group work. This workshop focused on the understanding of group roles and behaviors needed for effective teamwork. The workshop involved a series of group activities where we learned to demonstrate all of our personal strengths as well as performing with along with others.…
Around the world people come together and work to compete or develop ideas. In “La Vida Robot” by Joshua Davis it's about how four students from Carl Hayden High School that came together to beat a team from MIT in a robotics competition. Then in Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson is about how two individuals that came together to build one of the most successful technology companies. In both texts, Davis and Isaacson prove that a strong team consists of having individuals with various strengths for they can come together.…
In the story, “La Vida Robot”, by Davis, I meet four undocumented migrants from West Phoenix. Who would have ever thought these kids would join a robotics team. These four kids have a special position in the team which makes it a perfect team. Now, let’s meet these special students.…
Teamwork is essential to creating an effective team. If your team doesn’t get along well then you can’t get anything done. Joshua Davis, author of “La Vida Robot” and Walter Isaacson, author of from Steve Jobs both think differently about what makes an effective team. Davis wants the reader to know how the role each student’s background and skills play an important role on the team.Isaacson believes that to make an effective team you need to have members that think differently.…
In the video, the members work in the same organization but at different departmental levels with different knowledge and skills. How these people interact and relate to one another is a key factor in determining how successful the team will be at achieving its mission The group is made up of cross functional team members where there is input from people with a mixture of gender, race, age and ethnicity. It can be difficult managing a group like this because there are individual differences amongst each member. People vary among the layers of diversity: 1) personality, which is unique to every individual, 2) internal dimensions which is race and age, 3) external dimensions which includes religion and marital status and 4) organizational dimensions such as job title(McGraw Hill, 2007) These factors are likely to influence interpersonal relationships and the ability to work with others. Working together is part of many organizations that believe that…
“Most would agree that trait represents a disposition to behave expressing itself in consistent patterns of functioning across a range of situations” (Pervin, 1994). Many things play into the traits that we end up with as adults. These traits have a profound effect on how we interact with groups. Difficulty can always be found when a group is attempting to work together due to variances in personality traits. The key to working together as a group is to understand the differences and similarities that each group member possesses in order to reach the wanted outcome of the group. According to the personality assessments based on the Big Five taken by Team B the similarities in common are vast and the differences are minimal so working together should be easy. As the tests suggest, the team members are mostly agreeable and dependable so when a plan for action is reached then the team will fall in line to handle what needs to be done in order to reach the agreed upon goal.…
What makes a good team? Is it having complementary skills or working well together? In the two excerpts from “La Vida Robot” by Joshua Davis and “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson both have different point views about how to build an effective team. Depending on the type of the team and different attributes.…
When it comes to teamwork, most people will consider teamwork in terms of being part of a baseball, basketball, or football team. In contrast, a team is “really just a group of people who use their skills, experience, and knowledge to work toward a common goal” (Beverly K. Bachel, 2007). Teams working together in the workplace are extremely productive and profitable. Teams working together increase problem-solving skills and innovation, quality, and decrease turnover and absenteeism. (Scarnati, J 2006) Teams have an overall high success rate when well structured and the communication between the team members stays open throughout the project. A team is a collection of individuals who have gathered to achieve the same…
