And what is known about the sustainability of current groundwater, it is that it will not last. Ponce (2006) states” The unsustainable use of groundwater stands to significantly impact a host of hydrological, ecological and other natural resources and services, including freshwater bodies, and aquatic, riparian, transitional, and ecosystems.” All life on planet earth depends on clean freshwater to survive and It is very important that this natural resource is taken care of properly.
Hypothesis
I expect the thre results to be that if human development in the world is continued, groundwater sustainability will surely be affected greatly.
Methods
Six different categories were observed in three different time period ( the 1800’s , !900’s and 2000’s) . The different categories were: Impact to forest, groundwater level, Saltwater intrusion, farming, industrial development, population.
Results/Outcome
-In the 1800s: large forests, lots of groundwater, no salt water intrusion, small farms, no cities and limited housing
-In the 1900s: Forest and groundwater levels decreased by 50%, ocean moved into groundwater, farms are larger but fewer, exceptional growth of cities and industrial development, Substantial increase in housing
-In the 2000s: Forest and groundwater levels decreased by 90%, greater movement of ocean into groundwater, The farm number stayed the sme but the size decreased by 20%, Industrial development decreased by 10 to 15%, housing development decreased by to 10 to 15%
Discussion/Analysis
Results expected from my hypothesis were obtained. In the 1800’s, water was plentifull and then by the 1900’s decreased by 50% and the ocean moved into the groundwater. In the 2000’s the groundwater level decreased by 90% and the ocean freely flowing into the groundwater.
