Building a New Structure- Tools and Wiring
Structured Cabling
Where is the Plenum section of the room and why is it important?
The plenum space is where the communication cables for the building 's computer and telephone network are stored.
What is the purpose of Riser cabling?
The purpose of riser cabling is so the cables can be situated into walls rather than a drop ceiling. These cables run between floors in non-plenum areas is rated as riser cable. The fire requirements on riser cable are not as strict. Thus, plenum cable can always replace riser cable, but riser cable cannot replace plenum cable in plenum spaces
What is the purpose of horizontal cabling?
Riser cabling connects between the telecommunications rooms, the rooms are normally on different floors.
Crosstalk
When does Crosstalk occur?
Crosstalk occurs when some of the signal is being transmitted on one pair leaks over to another.
As current flows through a conductor, what is produced?
As current runs through a conductor and it produces an electrical current.
What is induction and how does it cause Crosstalk?
Induction is when one electrical field from a conductor can create a current in another conductor.
What affect does distance between wires have on Crosstalk?
The closer conductors are the greater the induced current is.
If wires are perpendicular to each other, how much Crosstalk is induced?
The more perpendicular the wires are to each other the induced current will be less.
Noise
What is noise?
Anything electrical in the cable that isn’t the signal is noise.
Does a small amount of noise negatively affect the signal?
With noise your signal will be distorted.
As the noise increases, what happens to the signal?
As the noise increases the signal increases
What happens to the network when Noise is uncontrolled?
Uncontrolled noise will overpower the data signal and breakdown the network.
