Science is a subject area I am truly passionate about and aspire to continue in it in my future education as well as my career. As my career aspirations are in the field of medicine and biotechnology, I believe it would be a great opportunity for me to enhance my knowledge and hone my skills by being a part of the Lab Assistant Program. The knowledge I have gained through rigorous academic courses is very insightful and detailed, and I wish to apply this knowledge to practical uses and projects to develop a more thorough and complete understanding of it. The responsibility of being a lab assistant is extraordinary, contrary to what many students say. Lab assistants are required to handle tasks every day, and follow strict guidelines and timelines for the completion of tasks. These skills are essential for a successful future, and through this, the lab aide program will allow me to manage my time wisely and take full ownership of my delegated tasks on a regular basis. Being a lab assistant will also provide me with a simulation of working one-on-one with a professor in research laboratories. Lab assistants work directly with teachers to ensure specific tasks are completed and the proper protocols necessary are followed. In addition, teachers help guide the lab aides in their work and assist them in a wide variety of tasks. In college, research opportunities will present a similar situation, where a student will have the chance to work directly with a professor, as I will be at Young Dawgs. Through the role of a lab assistant, I will have a well-developed foundation to build upon in college, and form strong relationships with my professors to help contribute to his/her research. As a member of the lab aide community, I will also have the ability to communicate with other lab aides and learn more about this research. Through this collaboration, I will be able to establish stronger connections with other students and be taught skills …show more content…
With regards to a college major, I plan to major in biology in order to pursue a career in medicine. As a lab assistant in high school, I can develop a base for research-oriented work in college. Research-oriented classes in college allow students to work directly with their professors on specific research projects in their area of interest. In order to be successful in these types of classes, one must be prepared ahead of time, and know what to do in order to achieve the required goals. Through the lab assistant program, I can perform similar roles and duties by helping with lab work and preparing for upcoming experiments ahead of time, thereby simulating similar working conditions of that in college. Additionally, I will be able to work directly with my cooperating teacher in order to perform the designated tasks systematically, analogous to the same environment in college. Therefore, through the lab assistant program, I can develop the necessary skill sets and knowledge bases in order prepare myself for research-oriented classes in college. In the perspective of a career, lab assistant skills will definitely prove to be a major advantage in laboratory research and hospital surgery. By being a participant in the lab aide program, I can develop better time-management skills,

Recalling back to the time that I witnessed a fall from a cliff, it was the emotions and the rage of wanting to help but not being able to do anything. It was the frustration and heartache that made me struggle internally. All I could do then was listen to the water racing down the stream and the time is ticking away, waiting for help to arrive. I could feel the knotted strings in my heart that I couldn’t figure out how to untangle them. It felt like waiting for a rainbow after a snowstorm; I wanted to help the couple, I wanted them to be happy, I wanted them to continue smiling and laughing their hearts out like before they set out on that climb.…

"Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for their tomorrow"-Jim Kelly. Growing up residing in a small, under populated rural area I noticed how my community lacked access to health facilities and providers. Noting that this was a necessity to have, yet so scarce, I decided that being a health care provider was the career for me. I grew up always surrounded by the health care setting; my mother was a Lab Technician who worked with several Physician Assistants. I was often in her office during after school hours of my elementary/middle school years.…

As a first-generation student, I am significantly influenced by the Student Affairs staff at my undergraduate institution. When I arrived at Ramapo College, I quickly realized I was not prepared for college-level work, if it were not for the Educational Opportunity Fund Program, I would have felt lost and would have struggled both academically and financially. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have had many Student Affairs professionals guide me to academic success and personal development. As a result, I made the conscious effort to work with the minority students on campus and accepted the position as a Resident Program Assistant for the EOF program. I worked with a diverse population of students where the majority came from low-income communities who had the potential to perform college level coursework. While…
