A Study on Columbea columbidae
The generic name for a pigeon is Columbea columbidae. Various pigeons can be found in the outdoors when the temperature is either hot or cold. The observations of the functions and movements of three pigeons were made on a sunny afternoon on March 28, 2017. The temperature was relative,y close to 85 degrees and slowly went down as evening came closer. The behavior of three Columbea columbidae is quite remarkable. One can see that pigeons do various movements that ultimately make up their animal behavior. There were many repetitive movements, such as; cooing, plucking its feathers, and bobbing its head. Observations were made on these …show more content…
Usually birds who pluck their feathers are captive birds. These birds tend to pluck their feathers because they become. Another possibility for the feather plucking is the fact that they are not receiving enough fresh air. Freddy air is an enormous part of their lives. They need to able to spread their wings and fly. Although these are true possibilities they do not apply to the pigeons that I observed. The reason why it does not apply is because these pigeons are not captive. In fact while I was observing and recording my data there was absolutely no interaction between me and the pigeons, they were out and in the wild without being manipulated by any source. After forty minutes of observations the female pigeon flew to one of the closest light post. The two other male pigeons followed her by flying out to the light post where she had relocated herself, luckily enough my visions was still able to observe their movements and capture many patterns. At this point in time one of the male pigeons began to pluck its feathers. All of a sudden two other pigeons decide to land on the same light post. As soon as these two new pigeons landed the other two male pigeons rapidly began to pluck its feathers. The plucking of their feathers can be described as their heads reaching towards the back feathers and deliberately plucking them. The reason for this repetitive movement was because they were …show more content…
Cooing between pigeons is a way of communicating. This observation was made when five pigeons were located on a light post. One of the male pigeons began to coo to one of the female pigeons present. The cooing sounded like someone murmuring something but in a deeper time. When the male pie given began to do that it began to get closer to the female pigeon and so did she. These two pigeons began to peck one another. It can be concluded that the cooing is used to attract their mate. While cooing their wings would also flap and make a slapping noise. In this situation the male pigeon was successful in its goal to ultimately attract their mate which in this case was the female pigeon. When the female and male pigeons began to pick each other the other male piece on that was also plucking its feathers left the light post. The cooing was also used to claim territory. My observations and evidence shows that the cooing attracted its mate and also claimed the light post as his
