Chapter One
Introduction to the Study
Chapter One includes five parts (1) Background of the Study, (2) Statement of the Problem, (3) Significance of the Study, (4) Definition of Terms and (5) Scope and Limitations.
Part one, Background of the study presents the rationale for the choice of the problem.
Part two, Statement of the problem describes the purpose for conducting the study and enumerated the questions to be answered.
Part three, Significance of the study, discusses the benefits that may be derived from the result of the study and the persons who would benefit them.
Part four, Definition of terms, deals with the conceptual and operational definition of the important terms used in the study.
Part five, Scope and Limitations, Clarifies the limits, scopes and coverage of the investigation.
Background of the Study Labeling is a known concern in every educational institution yet most of us tend to ignore the precaution. Labeling is a controversial issue (Wollfolk, 2007). We cannot deny that it has effects which can be either desirable or not. Teachers, parents and students may see a label as a stigma that cannot be changed. It can sometimes explain the behaviour of an individual in terms of label attached to him (Woolfolk, 2007). Despite being labeled is common in every classroom interaction, researchers in education mostly focus about the effects of labelling to those who are considered exceptional. But every student, even the authors of this study, has experienced it. And we cannot deny that it has a change to bring on a student’s life, like academic self-concept and attitude towards social environment. Most
