Of course, certain things have changed. However, there are still many things that continue to affect minorities. All over the country there is a clear division in the ways the educational system is ran between the upper class students opposed to those in the middle class and below. One of the main problems is due to the racial inequality in our present school systems. This problem affects the quality of education that minorities receive. Most of these students live in low income neighborhoods where the nearby schools are some of the worst. With the increase of minorities living in the United States, it has become a bigger problem as it represents the success or failure of the country. For example, here in San Diego County we can see issue firsthand. If we were to compare a public high school somewhere in the poorest areas in the city with La Costa Canyon High School the differences are very clear. Fist of all, we are comparing two public high schools in San Diego County. They both teach the same grade levels, yet one school is scoring higher on standardized tests, has a successful athletic department, and has a beautiful campus. It is clear that this school refers to La Costa Canyon. Schools like these are successful for many unfair reasons. First of all, the school is majority white. They campus in clean and equipped with the best available resources. They have a huge library with the newest books, a computer lab filled with the most recent Apple computers, a nice field, new uniforms and equipment, healthier food in the cafeteria, more AP classes, and classrooms with a lower student ratio. One might wonder how is it possible that two public schools be so different to each other. Why is it that one school is better equipped than the other?
