Contextually, Lady Macbeth dissents from the archetypal Gothic female. The construction of Lady Macbeth is established through a chiastic structure. The Gothic female to Jacobean is developed as ‘the trembling victim’ which characteristically is passive, silent and victimized to terror and horror. Although Lady Macbeth adheres slightly to the ‘predator’ archetype of the Gothic female as dangerous, her self-desexualising which conventionally defies the ‘predator’ archetype to highlight her abandonment of morality and female responsibility to deconstruct through transgression, which progresses her downfall. This is established to subvert…
Throughout both ‘Great Expectations’ and ‘Macbeth’ surroundings are used to influence and define Miss Havisham’s and Lady Macbeth’s characteristics. These surroundings are not only physical, but also psychological; found in their relationships and trauma from past events. Although both women are presented in different forms…

Lady Macbeth has a controlling presence over Macbeth. She constantly states what she is going to do and Macbeth goes along with it.…
In the 17th - 19th century, the female voice was one of submission, innocence and tenderness. Women before 1918 had no say in the world of politics as they only then gained the ability to vote. Even after, with restrictions of 30 years of age in contrast to men being able to vote at 21 years of age, women did not have a full political voice. Shakespeare and Carol Ann Duffy challenge these expectations of women being submissive and present their women characters as authoritative and devious. In ‘Macbeth’, by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth goes against conventions. Lady Macbeth is a desperate and controlling wife who would do anything to get her husband in to royalty and live a wealthy life. This is similar to ‘Havisham’, written by Carol…
Lady Macbeth on the other hand is almost completely different to Macbeth – I guess opposites attract – but they have a couple of similarities for example she talks about the future just like Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is as not as gentle and caring as your stereotypical Jacobean woman but instead she looks like “the innocent flower” when in reality she is “The serpent under it” who is ready to attack. Lady Macbeth is more collected than Macbeth, she remains in control under pressure and she does not panic and she knows what she’s talking about she doesn’t seem to have any morality she has a way with her words, she is extremely persuasive so she uses that to her advantage and makes Macbeth do everything she says to do.…
Inside William Shakespeare's, Macbeth and Harper Lee’s, To Kill A Mockingbird there are several examples of power and corruption. The actions of characters from both the book and the play are influenced by something besides themselves. Both texts convey the message that when one becomes corrupted by power, that power is not sustainable. Inside the story of Macbeth, Macbeth sends his men to MacDuff's castle to murder MacDuff’s wife and children. This is done because Macbeth is told by the first apparition, an armoured head, “Macbeth!…
After reading Act One of The tragedy of Macbeth we can see that Lady Macbeth are indeed polar opposites. In act one we can see that the two are different so let us discuss the differences and similarities of Macbeth and his wife we witness in act one. Lady Macbeth seems to be more bold and stronger mentally than her husband while he is more of the second guessing type who thinks more than his wife who seems to not rethink and knows what she wants. In Act 1 we see that Lady Macbeth wants King Duncan dead but is doubting that her husband Macbeth can do it and when it comes to what the witches are sayings Lady Macbeth seems to just go with it instead of thinking if they are trustworthy but Macbeth is lacking trust of what the three witches are…
In literature, "evil often triumphs but never conquers."(Joseph Roux) A triumph is only short- term, for example, something short- term would be an achieved title, a victory in a battle, or a winner in a game. These three things are only temporary, as triumphs usually are in novels. When something is conquered, it remains conquered permanently. Usually the evil force is unable to conquer, because of the opposite side 's mentality. Because of these definitions, this statement is showing that even though evil characters or actions prevail in battles or events, the feat would not last forever, especially in the hearts and minds of the opposite side. I agree with this statement because there is proof that this is true in novels that I have read. Many novels have this common theme: good versus evil. This theme is shown in two works, Macbeth and To Kill A Mockingbird.…
A thorough exploration of William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ reveals that the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is a relationship that involves lots of ambition, affection and change which then leaves their fall terrifying and resounding and really shows that the common saying ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall’ is true. Firstly, the Macbeth’s are highly ambitious and always want the best for themselves. Secondly, the relationship between the two is very affectionate and then changes drastically. Lastly, because of the big build up leading up towards the end, the journey they went on and everything they had to go through it all leaves the reader stunned and shocked at the end.…

To begin with, Macbeth is greatly influenced by Lady Macbeth. She “is depicted by Shakespeare as an equal of Macbeth in the realm of ambition and ruthlessness; without her, in fact, Macbeth's courage may never have reached the ‘sticking-place’” (Moss & Wilson 7). She convinces him to commit the murder of King Duncan, as well as convinces him that murder is the only way to achieve their ambition. Rather than listening to his own conscience, which tells him to “...proceed no further in this business” (Shakespeare I.VII.34), Macbeth allows his wife to manipulate and convince him by accusing him of not being a man and expresses that she would “...dashed the brains out...”…
