Part One:
The overlying message of the Lady Matilda comic is that violence only leads to more violence, and, furthermore, the only way to obtain peace is to show compassion and peaceful behavior. It also suggests that there should be an openness to others ideas, because unlikely people can solve critical problems. This point is proven when the king sends Lady Matilda, because there is no one left to send and she solves the problem. It is also proven when Lady Matilda’s peaceful approach to the dragon problem in the kingdom ends up being the successful solution.
The statement provided by Arch-Bishop Desmond Tutu, “For there to be peace, women must lead,” relates because in this case it did take a woman to bring peace to the kingdom. The male knights tried to use violence to bring peace to the kingdom, but it …show more content…
did not work. It took Lady Tilda’s compassion to save the kingdom.
The comic does present Tutu’s case well.
In the comic, it shows that when the male knights were sent to deal with the dragons all it caused was more violence and turmoil. This was because the male knights tried to use violence to solve a problem. In this case the issue was violence not the dragons; they were just reacting to the violence. When the female knight was sent to deal with the dragon her compassion helped to solve the problem and make everyone happy. Lady Matilda was able to communicate and come to an agreement that would work for everyone. She was able to give the kingdom peace.
Part Two:
Word Cloud is in a separate document.
Part Three:
1. They are both similar because they serve to emphasis my main ideas.
2. Aside from the words that are used more often being larger, there is not an easy to read flow to the Word Cloud. If you were to read the Word Cloud instead of the original writing it would be harder to understand what I was trying to say.
3. The words that are more emphasized are violence, lady, peace, kingdom, and problem.
4. Yes, because they are what pertains to the main idea, problem, and solution of the
story.
5. My software allowed me to pick the shape that the Word Cloud took. I chose the castle because it matched the theme of the story, therefore, the shape did not did not lead me to think about something other than that.
6. The default colors are cool tones, and set the tone by providing a color pallet. These colors are similar enough that you can tell that they belong together, but are different enough that you can tell the words are components of a whole.
7. It shifts focus to the main points of the message instead of focusing on explaining my thoughts. This is due to the Word Cloud making certain words larger and colorful, thus drawing the audience’s attention.
8. It is useful because it points out what concepts I am emphasizing the most in my writing. When I review this, I can decide if I am accurately expressing what I am trying to say and see if I need to make any alternations.
9. It can be a way for me to become aware of the words I am using often and see if it is appropriate for me to find synonyms for the words during the revision process, so I do not seem to repetitive.
10. I thought it was interesting for a class assignment. I think it was interesting to see what I was emphasizing in my writing, and I would consider using this in papers to help me decide if I am being overly repetitive in my argument. With that being said, I would not love to do this all the time. It is not stimulating enough for me to think of it as a fun activity.
