Many people will believe that ambitions are often achieved with the individual's’ constant and continuous positive desire to achieve a goal, but it is truly the determination of one’s self towards a certain goal that allows them to achieve the success they intend. Through the inspirational story of Lance Armstrong, determination was significantly portrayed as the main motive that has driven him to overcome obstacles, both physically and mentally. With his previous achievement of overcoming an aggressive form of cancer, Armstrong has developed commitment to relentlessly strive for his goals, regardless of any obstacles. During the 2003 Tour de France race, Lance Armstrong has exhibited a strong sense of perseverance in which he has able to inspire
many, especially those who had experienced cancer during their lives. With this, it is undeniable that determination has played a crucial role in allowing individuals to overcome their own obstacles because it has provided them a strong desire to advance in which they are able to achieve their goals and inspire those around them.

Lance Armstrong, a valiant cancer survivor and an exceptional cyclist, has faced many challenges as part of his life.
He has learned to grow from these trials and allowed himself to develop a strong sense of persistence. This has provided him a unique, personal, and complex knowledge of himself that allowed him to control his actions and achieve his goals. During his participation in the 2003 Tour de France race, an unexpected crash from Lance Armstrong, has caught many spectators’ attention. This event has suddenly provided different outcomes of the race. But after grasping the idea of the unfortunate incident, Lance confidently told himself, “ ‘Lance, if you want to win the Tour de France, do it today.’ ” With this, it demonstrates how Armstrong has abled to turn this setback into a motivation. With a correct motive behaviour, he has able to set a good mindset in which it gives him a clearer idea of his initial purpose to pursue his goal. By having this clarity, it allowed him to truly understand the significance of achieving his goal and create a list of priorities, ranked based on their importance. In addition, having a strong sense of determination has given him the ability to be content with what he has done and to bravely advance and not look back. As a result, Armstrong was able to finish the race in first place. In addition, during his previous battle against a hostile form of cancer, he has gained self-confidence in which he had determined to not let it stop him.
With the cancer having the possibility of discouraging him from achieving his goals, he possessed a stronger will power that allowed him to overcome this obstacle and gain progress that he seek. As a result, “Armstrong ... considers his Tour de France victories a symbolic win for all cancer survivors.” After his win of the hundredth Tour de France race, he has become an inspiration to many, especially those who have experienced cancer in their lives. He has used this race to symbolize the daily lives of many cancer patients with their race to achieve and beat the disease. Regardless of any obstacles, Lance Armstrong has influenced individuals to have the determination to pursue goals and remind themselves the true purpose of achieving them.
