Langston University Mission Statement

I consider it an honor and a privilege to obtain a Masters in Urban Education at Langston University. I choose the University for several reasons. Langston’s graduate program can equip me with the necessary skills to become an effective classroom teacher. Langston’s University’s mission statement which is to strive to provide excellent post secondary education to individuals seeking knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enhance the human condition and promote a world that is peaceful, intellectual, technologically advanced and one that fulfills the needs of nations and individuals alike. My personal mission has similarities to Langston’s mission. It is my desire to attend graduate school because of the following reasons,
My perseverance
I have authority to sell Property and Casualty insurance and Personal and Commercial Lines. I hold a dual Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in Business Management and Administration from the University of Phoenix in Irving Texas. I have a diverse background and I was a franchise business owner of a successful commercial, janitorial service as well as a home cleaning service. In the past, I was a sales representative for two car sales locations of a high volume independent dealership. I was ultimately promoted to Loan Underwriter. During my stay in Texas, I was a substitute for all grades at Crowley Independent ISD in Crowley Texas. My most profound experience as an educator was when a teacher assigned a six hundred to one thousand word essay that was due at the end of class. The students did not think they would complete the assignment in time and others felt as if, it was not worth it because it was not possible. I promoted classroom participation and board work. We reviewed steps in writing an effective essay. As a result of my efforts, the class of twenty or more turned in their assignments. The kids respected me as substitute teacher and I was told they did not work that much for their classroom teacher.
In summary, I have described my reasons for wanting to attend graduate school at Langston University. I listed my rational for my interest in the Masters of Urban Education and which is to equip me with the necessary skills to break down barriers in the classroom.
