1. BIOGRAPHY OF JEREMY HANZELL-THOMAS
Dr. Jeremy Henzell-Thomas is Executive Director of The Book Foundation, a registered UK charity involved in the development of Islamic education programs, the sponsorship of Islamic art, and the publication of major works of Islamic spirituality which bring to light the universal message of Islam. He has also served as the first Chairman of the Board of FAIR, the UK Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism, from 2001-2003, and as Deputy Chairman of the Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS UK).
Since 1996, he has collaborated with Dr. Ahmed Moustafa in the field of Islamic art, writing catalogue texts and other essays about Dr. Moustafas work for the artistҒs international exhibitions.
In 1998, he initiated the Sarajevo Appeal Fund which involved 7,000 British schoolchildren in raising a large sum of money for the reconstruction of the war-damaged Primary Music School in Ilidza, Sarajevo, and the replacement of their musical instruments.
2. CONCEPT OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION BY JEREMY HANZELL
1. Islamic Education: Educating the Whole Person
The best Islamic education must encompass the two traditional categories of knowledge, and the hierarchical relationship between them: revealed knowledge; attained through the religious sciences; and acquired knowledge, attained through the rational, intellectual and philosophical sciences. In the worldview of tawhid (Divine Unity), knowledge is holistic and there is no compartmentalisation of knowledge into religious and secular spheres.
