What is death penalty? Death penalty is when a state or the government issues the punishment of execution to some one who has committed a crime. It has always been one of the most highly debated issues in the United States. Many Americans are against the capital punishment or commonly knows as the death penalty because they fear its too expensive or there are religious reasons to oppose the death penalty or some other reasons. But my point of view is just like the bible and what it says "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" meaning if you killed some body you ought to be killed also. Most people aren't worried about the life after committing crimes because they know that the laws aren't strict enough to make them to stop committing crimes. To these people, laws don't hold them back from doing what they want to do. Capital punishment is mainly used for murderers and other serious criminals dangerous to our society. People who oppose the capital punishment clearly don't feel the pain and the trouble the victims and their families has gone through. So, is capital punishment necessary? Yes, capital punishment deters crime and gives closure to families of the victim.…
English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…
According to Brittani K. Roy, the dropout rate for American Indians is 8.4 percent, compared to the Anglo dropout rate of 2.7 percent. While 62 percent of all U.S. high school students go to college, only 17 percent of Native American high school students do so (2011). My philosophy for Navajo students who are considered English Language Learners (ELL) need to have a better education meaning qualified teachers, accommodations, and programs to improve the areas they are lacking. When they receive a better education the dropout rate will decrease and the Navajo Nation will improve overall. My philosophy of what I believe are; utilizing native language, teacher and student communication, providing manipulatives, and using scaffolding in lessons.…
In the article, Setting the Foundation for Working with English Language Learners in the Secondary Classroom, the author states that many secondary teachers have misconceptions regarding the length of time needed to acquire English. According to surveys, the author found that over 71% of the secondary teachers she surveyed believed that ELLs should be able to acquire English within 2 years of enrolling in United States schools. Students may acquire social language within this time frame, but academic language generally takes over 5 years to develop according to other researchers.…

As we know, American classrooms are becoming progressively more diverse, and the fastest growing demographic of students are those whose first language is not English. Today, the majority of students are English Language Learners, and they may speak several languages and come from many different cultural backgrounds. These are students who have significant challenges in English which include: reading, writing, and responding to the subject-matter demands of school. Assessment strategies have influence over the education of English Language Learners since assessments impact the classification, identification, placements, and ongoing specialist care of such students. Also, assessment results come from the teachers’ belief systems about the students’…
As a writer I can say four years of learning English literature in high school, did not give me a clear perception over any of the stuff I had to prepare for when taking my first English literature writing course, when I say this I mean I was clueless going into my second semester of college when I signed up for the course I was confident at the start of the class then begin to realize my weaknesses and my strong abilities as a writer towards the end of the semester. Critically I will analyze previous works obtained in class this semester, but also as a writer how this college experience has pushed me to become consistent as a student personally, responsibly, critically, and quantitatively all having to do with the involvement of literacy.…
