Learning foreign languages is important, especially for those going to college. This topic illustrates that we can get closer to family and friends who speak a foreign language and get closer to our roots. When we travel, we can understand those around us and read items on the menu. Speaking two languages can open many doors into the business world and make you able to talk to those around the world in your work office.
If we learn another language we will be eligible to communicate with those in our families and among our friends. Learning how to speak our family's language will help make our family ties closer together, and we will be able to communicate more easily. In my family, my parents speak Chinese, but I can only hear it and understand it. If I learn Chinese, I will be able to communicate with them more efficiently. Learning your own family language also helps you get closer to your roots. If your family spoke a particular language in the past, you might want to learn it and possibly teach it to your siblings and you future children. It could be useful if you are researching your family tree and some of the documents you find are written in a language foreign to you.
When you travel to another country you would want to know the language so that you can communicate at ease with the people there. This is helpful so you can get help with driving directions, where to eat, where to stay, and other necessities that you may need. If you have a more advanced knowledge, you can have real conversations with the people you meet, which can be very interesting and will add a new dimension to your holiday. When you are ordering food at a restaurant, you might not be able to read the menu because it is in a different language then what your native language is. Perhaps you enjoy the food and/or drink of a particular country or region and make regular trips there, or recipe books you want to use that are only available in a foreign language. I also believe that you can understand people when they are trying to help you or if they are talking about you, thinking that you do not understand them and their verbal communication.
Lastly, if your work involves regular contact with speakers of foreign languages, being able to talk to those in their own language will help you to communicate with them. It may also help you to make sales and to negotiate and secure contracts. Knowledge of foreign languages may also increase you chances of finding a new job, getting a promotion or a transfer overseas, or going on foreign business trips. When you go on a business trip you would have to understand what the people who you are working with are saying to be able to work with them and do your job.
To conclude, foreign languages are an important part of our world and we should learn them. They help create family ties and make communicating with relatives and friends easier and it creates a stronger bond between you and your fellow friends and family. In addition, when you travel it helps you communicate with foreigners which may help you find directions or where to eat. You would also be able to read menus and be able to travel with ease without worrying about them being able to understand you or not. Last, but not least, this skill will help people find more jobs and be able to talk with those in the same company, but in a different country. Learning this skill constructs a human being to be more flexible and more intelligent.
