Laptops in the Classroom 21th century is the world boon with and captured in technologies. Addicted life with technologies, technology natives do not realizes the problem of technologies. Although the most innovative technologies such as computers and phones brought efficiency to our world, now those are centered role of problems. As we can see in our society, technology cannot stray out from our life. It is already constitute a whole.…
The essay “Laptops in the Classroom? No Problem” by Elena Choy, states that banning laptops in the classroom in not the answer. I agree with Choy because with laptops in a classroom, students can access the internet and this is a great tool for research and also a means of communication by using tools like chats, e-mails and forums. With the arrival of the internet we were confronted with new possibilities, challenges and uncertainties in the process of learning and teaching. How can students and teachers adapt to a learning process involving a technology that is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and more challenging? For me, teaching, in a broad context, is to select and organize information in order to transform it into knowledge. Laptops can facilitate individual and group research as well as the exchange of ideas between teachers, their colleagues and their students. Using laptops to access the internet provides students with an exchange of experiences, questions, materials, personal exchanges, both of whom are geographically near and far. Laptops can help teachers to better prepare their class by expanding the ways to teach, to modify the evaluation process and communication with students and colleagues.…
Is technology a distraction to students or are we, the students, bringing upon ourselves to get distracted through technology, specifically laptops? Why do people want to demand updated technology in the first place? It is simply because technology is dynamic in which provide numerous information to us to enhance our knowledge and help us accomplish various tasks. As technology is improving, using technology is irresistible to students’ later lives due to our society and technology combing together. The innovative technology is merely a neutral tool that we, students, can choose to use anyway we wish.…
Growing up in an age of technology may not benefit students when it comes to taking notes by computer. A debate on whether to go back to taking notes by hand or on the computer has been brought to npr’s attention. James Doubek, author of Attention Students: Put Your Laptops Away, states “a study has shown that the fact that you have to be slower when you take notes by hand is what makes it more useful in the long run.” Writing notes helps you focus on the main points rather than typing as much as you can and not focusing on the most important information. A study at UCLA was done in June of 2014 finding that “those who wrote out their notes by hand had a stronger conceptual understanding.” (May) Though arguments can be made either way, I feel…
At first people thought that technology have only positive side, but now some researches shows otherwise. In other words, technology have two side of effect and it’s depend at how the students use it. Carr (2010), said: “people who are continually distracted by e-mail, alerts and other massages understand less than those who are able to concentrate.” He believes that…
Laptop computers are really useful for students because one can just pick the computer up go. Students don’t have to worry about finding a computer at school because it’s portable. Although laptops are portable, one still has to worry about it being lost or stolen. One must also have to concern there self about dropping their computer. Now with a desktop computer one is restricted to one spot till they are finished with their task. With desktop computers one has to worry about where to place the computer when it gets home. Then a computer desk is needed before the computer is brought home.…

Although the laptop is a good tool for learning, it can also distract other students in the classroom. Based on the presentation, students who use laptop would likely spend time multitasking and distracts other students from learning. It also states that people who multitasking can affect other students to be distracted and unfocused on the study or taking notes. Students who use laptop would likely type the same thing the teacher says and would likely take more note. In contrary, students who take notes by hand would likely use their own words and process the note they were taking. Thus, students who use laptop do not process their note deeply as hand note takers. As results, they would likely do poorly on a quiz or a test.…
Carrying a laptop around that contains all of your textbooks in one place is way easier and more convenient than hauling a heavy backpack around. It would help students stay more organized. Instead of having multiple places to put things where things could easily get lost. People would have one place to put all of their things making it harder to lose important papers. Also teachers could make assignments on laptop allowing students who are sick or absent to stay on track with their classes making it harder to fall behind. On laptops you highlight…
In the past century, technology has advanced to astronomical new ways to enhance lives and shape society worldwide. Programs have emerged, along with the technology that supports, that can assist with many different things such as correcting grammatical or spelling errors with spell check or tearing down international language barriers with Google translate. Society would have never been the same without all the tech people have grown to know and love. Technology has changed society by revolutionising medical care and treatments, enhancing the way society learns, and have assisted in exploration to venture into immense new areas such as the vast cosmos or the depths of the ocean that have been left untouched till recently. Technological…
Through the use of many different techniques, Choy analyses the question as to should laptops be banned in classrooms and gives many examples as to why she believes banning…
Nevertheless, despite the negative aspects of personal electronic devices, there are significant positive aspects as well. First, they allow students to stay in touch with the people who are important to them. Second, students can use them to acquire information from the internet. Third, they are handy for sorting and storing data needed for school. Fourth, they can be used as a scheduling device and issue reminders. Finally, they can provide entertainment for the times that students simply need to escape the stresses of school.…

It is important to keep in mind that although laptops are very helpful, to some they can become a distraction. In the discussion of laptops, one controversial issue has been the use of laptops in classrooms. On the one hand, in Andrew Goldstein’s essay “Keep Online Poker Out Of The Classroom: Why Professors Should Ban Laptops”, he argues that laptops are extremely distracting and should be banned from all classrooms. On the other hand, Elena Choy’s “Laptops In The Class Room? No Problem”, where she argues that students have the right to use laptops and do what they please with them. In their writing, both authors give personal examples in regards to why they feel the way they do. Although both arguments were very convincing at first, one argument stood out the most.…
