Exam Case The case study for the Final Exam is Las Ferreterias de Mexico. A copy of the case is available in WebCT. Exam Conditions Time: 15 minutes reading time +2.5 hours; Closed books and notes. You will be given a clean copy of the case in the examination. There are a couple of questions that require some calculations; therefore, a calculator will be allowed in the exam. These questions make up less than 10% of the Exam. Exam Questions, Scope and Pointers A. The exam paper will have three sets of questions – total 60 marks 1 2 3 Strategy Formulation and Value Chain Analysis Responsibility Accounting and the Balanced Scorecard Agency Theory and Management Control Systems 15 marks 20 marks 25 marks

There are 3 to 6 questions per set. B. The questions will cover topics featured in Revision Slides (Week 12) plus 2 slides on Agency Costs from the Week 10 Lecture. Students should test whether they can explain the topics in these slides and how each topic possibly applies to the case. • There would be questions of a general nature: e.g. What is an investment centre? • There would also be questions that refer to how a general concept relates to the subject business: e.g. In what ways does the incentive plan support this company’s strategic goals?

Students may also like to think about general questions that they addressed in making their case presentations.

C. To efficiently address questions with various parts, students are encouraged to use Dot points and Tables as much as possible. Be sure though that the substantial content asked for are still included. Also provided in this folder is an example of a Balanced Scorecard for the IT department of NUCOR (Week 2 case). Included in that example are generic questions that need to be addressed in preparing an appropriate scorecard.
