Lasciatemi Morire Analysis
Lasciatemi morire” is the first of four pieces that make up the larger work Lamento d’Arianna. It was originally taken from Monteverdi’s second opera L’Arianna in 1608. The piece is for five voices, but in the opera, it was a recitative consisting of 70 lines of Italian text. Lasciatemi morire,
Lasciatemi morire;
E che volete voi che mi conforte
In così dura sorte,
In così gran martire?
Lasciatemi morire.

Let me die,
Let me die;
And what you would think could comfort me
In such a harsh fate,
In such a great martyrdom?
Let me die. Monteverdi uses a lot of word painting in this piece, especially on words like “morire” meaning to die. Monteverdi places a special harmonic emphasis or dissonance on this dramatic word. At one point with this

    In the two texts the composer uses techniques to emphasise the theme of belonging. The two texts both use Descriptive language, this sets the scene, the mood and emphasises the statements. In “unlovable” it strongly contrasts the feeling of belonging and not belonging “The smell of something sugary and grassy lingered by the pebble bed and that stole my heart to leave this area” the beautiful scent represents belonging while the pebble bed is representing not belonging, by contrasting these two entities it emphasises the need to belong.…

    As the show goes on, Clara sings a song called “The Beauty Is”which is her telling you of what she's experiencing for the first time somewhere new. After she meets fabrizio, and he's fallen in love, he goes on to sing a song in full italian called “Il Mondo Era Vuoto”. This song is all about how Clara fills the “light” in his life that he was always missing. Its truly a beautiful and one of the most passionate songs in the show. The way it is written shows precisie emotions and you can almost understand the message without the text being sung along. Fabrizio asks Clara on a walk in the piazza. There, he serenades her with a fun song “Passeggiata” to show her of the place he knows the best, Italy. As Clara and Fabrizio's love grows, Margaret's and Roys (her husband's) dies. Margaret towards the end of the first act sings a song of falling out of love with her husband and reminiscing on the beautiful times they shared when they were in love by singing “Dividing Day”. This song by far is the most passionate, sad, and most beautiful song I have ever heard throughout the musical theater realm. There are many…

    Kim Addonizio's Onset

    Addonizio starts her rage of word choice in the beginning of the poem when she is describing the scenery of spring. When she talks about the "bush of white flowers," its seems as if "white" is chosen to represent purity of the season. To have the reader understand the purity she also states items such as "Styrofoam cups" and the "snowflake-dimond-snowflake" rug. These words are also chosen to maintain consistency of the purity of spring. The repetition of the color white is also due to the fact that she is terrified of spring "in its tireless, mindless replications.," therefore, the repetition of the color also adds meaning to her undergo of spring. In between lines, Addonizio uses the word "emergence" to give the reader a feel for her emotion. Using the word "emergence" instead of its direct meaning, such as "multiplicity" or "duplicity", makes it ironic because it almost sounds close to the word "emergency." It is appropriately used for the fact that the duplication of her surrounding is of an a emergency to her. Towards the middle of the poem, Addonizio begins to speak about her two feet and how they look exactly identical. The duplicity of her feet seem to "oppress" her as see notices how they mirror each other. Addonizio writes, "even my two feet, how they mirror each other oppresses me." It is ironic that the term "oppresses" is used after she…

    They both enjoyed the views of nature; it had the effect to be able to calm them down in the awful situations. After the murder of Victor’s son, William, Victor still found peacefulness upon looking at the mountains. ”Dear mountains! My own beautiful lake! how do you welcome your wanderer? Your summits are clear; the sky and lake are blue and placid. Is this to prognosticate peace, or to mock at my unhappiness?” (55). “The call--a version of the lyric gesture of addressing the earth with the assumption that it can respond--establishes a relation of nativity and origination: Victor is the mountains ' as they are his. He identifies the calm landscape as a response, but an enigmatic response that he is unable to interpret” (Guyer). Also, after gazing out the window for hours Victor “felt the silence, although I was hardly conscious of its extreme profundity” (120). “The sublime mountainscape gives Victor a feeling of potential freedom and of mastery; however, in order to live that freedom he will have to free himself from the dead who haunt him, a freedom that may be possible only in death. Victor calls upon the dead and presents them with an alternative--give me happiness or death” (Guyer). Victor’s creation always lived alone, and in that state of loneliness he found comfort in the natural environment he resided in. Soon after the creature was created he had a difficult time remembering the original era of his being. All of…

    The three opening stanzas are spoken by a narrator-type voice. This speaker sets the scene and tone of the piece: that of Petrarchan love, with the topos of an unattainable beloved, whose love burns and pains the Lover. He introduces the characters: Damon the mower, and Lover; and Juliana, the cruel beloved. The narrator expounds Juliana 's character and Damon 's perception of her, she is one to behold, “Like her fair Eyes the day was fair;” (3). However, the short-lived compliment of her eyes is accompanied with words like stung, complaint, scorching, and fear that exemplify Juliana who is scornful and one to be feared, and scornful.…

The tone of her voice at times intensifies as to show her sorrow and shame. This is an amazing energetic piece by the presented of these instruments: piano, cowbell, timpani, maracas, voices (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass). The tempo throughout the piece are rallentando and fast tempos. The piece sounded strong, powerful, harmonizing in between the instrument, but also chilling at the sacred movement where it got slow and a bit softer. Overall, the dynamics where mezzo forte, forte, tenuto, crescendo, and sforzando. The word that have been repeated the most throughout the piece was “silliza” with a loud (forte) by the voices singing. I have enjoyed this piece and love it because it sounds really energetic, strong, happy, fun, and exciting. In my opinion, this is an good ending song where all the choirs get to sing together before the concert…

    The song Lacrymosa was recorded by the American rock band Evanescence. The song itself was based on a small piece of a bigger song done by Mozart. Known as Lacrimosa, it is a small piece of a bigger picture called The Requiem. The original piece of work is the foundation for the Evanescence version of the song. The piece that was composed by Mozart’s is played constantly as the main melody though the whole song. Instead of the song being played in a D-minor, like the original piece, it was changed to an E-minor. Amy Lee, the vocalist of the song, sings in a soprano tone giving the song a different musical timbre than the rest of the instruments.…
