Last Moments Of Judas Analysis
All of the paintings discussed in this series of posts has been painted on paper. As I dwelt on this fact, I started wondering if these paintings were just random acts of expression or a beginning phase of a painting that he never put on a canvas.

This painting is the first in the series that depicts a "human" figure. The background for the painting is a light blue and yellow which is a sharp contrast from the dark red figure. The yellow is at the top of the painting and the lower left side of the painting. In the lower left, the yellow seems to be an explosion of color, expanding as far as it can go. There is a white shape that seems to be covering the figures face, similar to a mask. The interesting part that stuck out to me was that the mask seems to be slipping off the figure's face. As though, the figure's identity was about to be revealed. The figure also seems to have horns in the back of his head, but the mask cannot cover the horns. The mask cannot hide all of the true thoughts of the figure. The horns allude to the figure resembling a devil figure.

After looking at this painting for a while, I noticed a couple words written underneath the painting. These words say "Last Moments of Judas", and I had a revelation about the meaning of the painting. Chris has painted the dark red figure with horns to portray Judas. Judas' mask is falling off as he is about to die, but the horns were never concealed to Jesus and God. The story of Judas has always been an interesting one to me. Jesus and God let Judas betray Jesus ultimately leading to Jesus' death. But Jesus knew what his destiny was and did not interfere with God's plan. The betrayal of Judas raises the question, "Did Judas believe that Jesus and God were all powerful?". Hard to imagine a man betraying the one who created

This painting shows the energy and positive attitudes of the people through the use of vibrant colors and the happy expressions of the faces. The people in this picture have features that were comparable to the minstrel characters (Wikipedia, 26 July 2013) often depicting Black face. Many have very dark skin with big white eyes and teeth, and are all smiles. All of the people are dressed nicely in dresses for the women and girls, top hats and slacks for the men and boys. It is safe to assume that the people in the picture had just came from church, because in the background you clearly see the church and a handful of people walking out as well as a carload of people driving off.…

This piece was especially interesting due to the canvas it was painted on. The carvings on the masorite looked almost like a thumbprint. At the bottom center and top center there are fingers reaching towards the center the of the painting and a large trunk of a tree behind them. Sitting in the palm of the bottom hand there is a person sitting in a fetal position. At the far left of the piece there seems to be a silver totem like structure surrounded by a number of small blue swirls. At the opposite end there are various nude women raising…

Recently, someone asked, “Did Judas leave the Last Supper early?” She was repeating a question that she heard from people who criticize Christianity. There are two major types knowledge that is used to evaluate Christianity. She had probably heard this question from someone who depended on exoteric knowledge. To bear fruit within the church, we need to know about exoteric knowledge and esoteric knowledge. Exoteric knowledge is knowledge that is publicly available. Esoteric knowledge is kept from everyone except the initiated. Among educated people, the word "esoteric" is widely known and used frequently. On the other hand, the word "exoteric" is known only to few people. Thus, the word "exoteric" is…

The drawing is a monochromatic, gray scale depiction of a group of four males. One, the bacha, is dancing while another, to the right, is playing a stringed instrument called the ghidjak. The ghidjak is “a type of spike fiddle played with a bow.”4 The other two appear to simply be onlookers. The dancer and player seem to be more important characters, because the others are overlapped by them. There is not much room for anything other than these four figures, but the artist incorporates much detail in the background, including a few objects that appear to be hanging on the wall. The drawing is representational, but not wholly naturalistic, as the fabrics still look flat although there is a texturized appearance.…

His technique was revolved around the grid method. He would draw to create photo realism/realism. He wanted the drawings to really pop out the real life looking portraits he used a lot of nice shading and value. One reason of many that he made large pictures is because he was blind. After meeting someone he wouldn’t remember them so painting pictures of their faces helped him. He had to overcome the obstacle of that and a seizure which was later found out to be a blood clot in his spine. He was paralyzed from the neck down but soon started physical therapy to regain function. Lucky for him he got some movement back in his arms. Since the amount of movement was so little, he had to tape on the paintbrush to his right hand and use his left hand for…

According to Viramontes, the unique challenges by Latina females is caused greatly by their ethnic background. Often women are oppressed by society, but when the issue is of color these challenges are harder to avoid. This does not only occur in this novel, but exists today in the real world. Many Latina females are often discriminated and harassed by societal influences, which makes them feel forced into specific roles. As seen in Under the Feet of Jesus, Estrella is a victim of these ongoing challenges, for being part of a low socioeconomic status, lack of education, and not being a legal U.S. citizen.…

This Mystery Painting is one of many pieces that have been interpreted differently between artists of the 14th century. To begin analyzing the artwork, you can see that two figures are engaging one another in what appears to be a small bedroom. The figure on the left, dressed white robes is engaging the kneeling figure on the right who has her hand raised in front of her. The position of their body language suggests an conversation significant to the subject of the painting, as well as the figures themselves. To identify both figures, their attire and status should be analyzed first. In most religious paintings the color blue is worn by the Virgin Mary, who is always depicted in a long cloak. Another indication that the figure is indeed Mary is the book she is holding in her left hand, which represents the forthcoming New Testament and the end of the Old Testament. With evidence from other interpretations of the Virgin Mary, it can be safely assumed that the robbed figure adjacent to her could be Gabriel the angel, which explains why she is depicted with wings and clothed in…

    Hall Of the Bulls, Lascaux

This magnificent painting dates back to Lascaux, France 15,000-13,000 B.C.E. It was found on cave walls and it is said to represent one of the earliest examples of artistic expression. We can see that this piece was created during the Paleolithic period because; they are images walls using paint on limestone. We can see that the primitive people used natural rock contours, which suggested the animal’s volumes and portrayed real representations of a major role in their lives, which were the animals. We can see horses, bulls, deer, cows and more animals on the walls of these caves. Furthermore, the images of the animals are overlapping earlier illustrations; this would suggest that what made the people at the time want to paint the animals was the simple act of portraying them, instead of focusing on the effect that their act would achieve. On the religious part of this piece, we know that several of the paintings were situated far from the entrance of the caves. This type of placement followed by the gigantic size and great importance of them would tell us that the secluded rooms were used for ceremonial and sacred gathering places. I would have to agree with this interpretation due to the fact that it is believed that main use of the caves was for worship and initiation rituals.…

All characters are full of intensity except Jesus, who knows he will be crucified. This painting was sold in the 1800s accredited to a Dutch artist, but in 1990 this painting was rediscovered as a Caravaggio. Many recreations of Jesus’ arrest have been observed, however, between Caravaggio’s and Gerard Douffet’s (1620) “Taking of Christ”, I find both most…

The title of the painting comes from the three key figures; Christ on the cross, God the Father standing on a ledge behind Christ, and the Holy Spirit which is symbolozied by a white dove. Masaccio put everything on common level. The painted figures are roughly life-size. For an average person, their eye-line view would have been above ground level with Death in the form of the crypt and skeleton directly in front and the promise it Salvation above. The figure behind Jesus on the cross represents God. Prior to the Renissance it was unheard of to actually paint God. What expressed humansim was the face he painted God with the resemblence to a man. Not only did he…

Eventually it hit me why I was drawn to this particular painting out of all the rest. It was the fact that probably no one else thought to wonder other then Tissot, what Jesus saw, or for that matter, what exactly was on his mind as he was nailed to a cross looking down on all the people that were looking up at him. Yet in Tissot’s mind’s eye, after reading this biblical story came up with the idea to paint this portrait from the viewpoint of Jesus. I find this to be absolutely amazing to come up with this idea.…

The image depicts a scene from Inferno, a classical poem written by Dante Alighieri in the 1300’s in which Dante is led through the levels of Hell by the dead poet Virgil. In this particular moment, Dante is witnessing the horrors of the wrathful in Hell. Clearly, Dante is the figure cloaked in beige and covering his mouth in utter disbelief. His eyes, however, are not directed at the two fighting men. He is staring off towards the side of the painting which makes us wonder what exactly he is looking at. Virgil continues to look down at the scene before us while he attempts to steer Dante onward with a hand.…
