The role of the emergency department physician primarily involves in overseeing the patient’s treatment and planning from admission to discharge. This will also involve a physical assessment, notation of clinical history and possible prescription of medication. In an acute scenario they need to stabilize the patient and evaluate them in order to rule out life threatening problems and identify what is causing the patient’s symptoms. Use of resources and gathering information from the patient they need to be able to suggest next course of action, whether the patient requires further tests and needs to be referred elsewhere or are okay to be cleared.…

While at work for any support I need I firstly will talk to the other member of staff I am on shift with. After that I may call a senior in the office or the out of hour’s duty manager. If problems are still not solved then for the safety of the young person I may need to call the police depending on the situation.…
All staff have a responsibility to safeguard children and young people. Today we use the word safeguarding instead of child protection. It has a much broader range and is produced to provide a framework to protecting children and young people, bringing with it specific recruitment and selection, training and vetting procedures such as C R B checks. It also highlights the need to ensure that inappropriate behaviour does not take place and outlines the preferred means by which any allegations or suspicions are reported and acted upon. Safeguarding a child or young person is also to ensure that they have the opportunity to achieve their true potential and have the right to be protected from abuse, such as:…
I was confronted with an ethical conflict with a student. Bob (name has been changed) is a second grade boy with Emotional Disturbance. One morning during writing, Bob got upset because he did not want to write. I reminded him that he is in school to work hard. That it was not okay for him to refuse to work. I told him writing is really important and he is going to do it more in 3rd grade. I asked him to clip down for his behavior (behavior system) because he was not working hard, which breaks the school wide rule of making good choices. He was so upset that he pulled the bucket from my hand and hit me. I informed him that I understood that he was really upset and told him that that is definitely not the way to resolve a conflict. I reminded him that adults do not go around hitting one another because there are grave consequences for that type of action. I resolved the situation by reminding him to be mindful of his emotions and reminded him to breathe deeply to calm his heart rate. I gave him a break and then reminded him that when he is feeling really upset he needs to use his words so we can meet his needs. I gave him a referral. Even though I understand that the child has a difficult time dealing with emotions, I have provided strategies that can help him calm himself. He did not use them. I believe student safety comes first. I had a difficult time writing this referral because I know that sometimes he truly cannot control himself. But, I gave him a referral because…

If a service user confides in me that he is being abused I need to take a case seriously. I can’t ignore a Resident, no matter what but it also is very important to gather more information before seriouse measurments will be taken. First of all I need to take care of patient he need to be reassured that he can belive in me and talk with him about incident. I need to make him feel respected and provide effective listening. In case when abuse took place he need to be assured that it wasnt his fault and that I will do everything in my power to prevent any more incidents. I should report situation to my menager so that he could take proper steps, begin investigation and inform authorities. Policies and procedures are put into place to protect children and young people but also the adults/staff who work with them in the setting, it is very important that all professionals within the work place follow safe working practices to make sure that not only the children and young people are protected but also themselves and their colleagues. E.g. if a disclosure is made by either a child or young person to a member of the staff within the setting it is vital that the information they have trusted you with is always taken very seriously even if it this is proven to be untrue or partly inaccurate. The child or young person should always be listened to by staff in a calm and supportive manner which will allow them to talk freely, openly and be able to make them feel confident with expressing their views, also another important factor is that they are reassured about telling someone and expressed how hard it must have been for them so they always feel like they can come to you to talk to you when they need to and they don’t ever feel alone, scared or a burden to anyone. Once the disclosure has been made and the child or young person is calm, secure and reassured the employee or adult should inform the designated safeguarding officer straight away, applicable notes should be…
1. What are your Statutory and policy requirements for identifying observing and reporting young people at risk of harm?…
Ensuring children and young people’s safety and welfare in the work setting is an essential part of safeguarding. While children are at school, practitioners act in ‘loco parentis’ while their parents are away. As part of their legal and professional obligations, practitioners hold positions of trust and a duty of care to the children in their school, and therefore should always act in their best interests and ensure their safety – the welfare of the child is paramount (Children Act 1989). The Children Act 2004 came in with the Every Child Matters (ECM) guidelines and greatly impacted the way schools look at the care and welfare of pupils. Children and young people should be helped to learn and thrive and be given the opportunity to achieve the five basic outcomes: be healthy; stay safe; enjoy and achieve; make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being. Children are vulnerable and depending on their age and level of development, do not see danger or recognise risks. They do not know when or how to look after themselves and need adults to protect them and ensure their safety, whilst encouraging their independence in an age appropriate manner.…
Every organisation that deals with children and young people must have a safeguarding policy which is regularly reviewed and updated. Any person that has contact with children/young people must know the unit’s policy and what to do in the event of any cause for concern. Protecting children and promoting their welfare is often a shared responsibility as there can be many different agencies involved in each case - social services, school, police, health professionals…
