Late July Short Story

I chose the short story “Late July, 4:40 A.M.” from the selections from In Brief. The story begins in the plains of western Kansas and transitions to a truck stop where a “herd of big rigs” is located. The author talks about how the trucks are polluting the world but people are models of their environment so they could care less. Heading to Colorado, the author talks about the landscape and the clean air despite the endless big rigs. They also bring up the signs for attractions that they see along their way and wonder, what is stranger, the attraction itself or the person who goes to see it. The road propelled the author so much so that they had no urge or reason to stop. They reached their destination and there are more signs off to the side
