Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Pioneer Way Of Life
The Pioneer Way of Life Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life story told in Laura Ingalls Wilder, Young Pioneer by Beatrice Gormley illustrated by Meryl Henderson tells you how Mrs. Wilder lived, through happiness and sorrow. After moving seven times she finally settled down with her husband, Almanzo Wilder, and lived in (as she called) Rocky Ridge and farmed with him. She wrote the Little House on the Prairie books while living there. She had a daughter, Rose, who helped her edit and finalized her books. She loved writing, especially about her childhood, and her many adventures. In her childhood she experienced near death circumstances and many types of illnesses. She had her first teaching job when she was around sixteen. Her sister, Mary, enrolled at College for the Blind around the same time. Laura knew that her sister’s college tuition would be expensive so she decided to work several jobs to help her sister. Laura soon married Almanzo Wilder and they had their first baby, Rose Wilder. Two years later they had a baby boy, but he died a few days after. Then they moved to Mansfield, Missouri. The Wilders didn’t have anymore children and Rose grew up with a passion for writing, like her mother. Rose moved off to New York to work for a newspaper company, but when she heard that her mom might publish a book she quickly moved back to help her. Laura’s father died before she published her book, and her mom only got to read one. With the help of Rose, Laura wrote all of the Little House books and died at age 90 in 1957. Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of several books, an old pioneer, and a great woman. Laura has encouraged me to be kind and live the pioneer way. She has influenced the whole world with her great books. I admire Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder because she has taught our whole nation how hard it was when she was a child. She made people understand how important of the United States really
