Did you know the real name of the lava lamp is called the astro lamp? Back in the 1960s, A man named Edward Craven Walker brought the lava lamp to reality. What inspired him to start his invention was something along the lines of an egg timer he saw while visiting a pub. In 1965, he introduced his lava lamp for the first time at a novelty convention in Hamburg. After that, he spent many years trying to make and perfect …show more content…
First off, the main component your eye would see in the lava lamp would be the “lava”. As most of us might know, its not actual lava; it is actually made out of different colored waxes. The wax will only form into blobs and separate when it is heated up by a light bulb. This is another component that is installed at the bottom of the lamp. If there is no heat source, the wax will never separated and will stay clustered at the bottom of the lamp. Turning it on and heating the wax however, makes it less dense causing it to slowly float to the top. The next component to the lava lamp is the substances that it contains inside with the wax. Although many people think that the substance inside of it is just water, there is another substance that plays a major role in why the wax floats. The name of this material is called Carbon Tetrachloride. While the heat from the light bulb makes the wax less dense for it to float upwards, the carbon tetrachloride is used as an anchor for the wax. Since water is lighter that the carbon tetrachloride, the wax is going to float
