Law Enforcement Today
In civilization today, local, state, and federal law enforcement face many issues. These concerns can range from racial profiling to stress. One of the biggest challenges is enforcing the law due to the fact of not everyone understanding it. Since many officers go through this on a day to day basis, it is important to have proper training not to mention counseling when it comes to these types of issues. Department of Homeland Security helps with these issues as they communicate through Washington.
Many law enforcement agencies, big and small, face problems. Problems can arise at any time and can be at any level of severity. Issues can be police brutality, racial profiling, and stress. To go into further detail, an example of police brutality would be an individual being pulled over, being asked to get out of the car, and the officer handles the suspect too rough by beating him. If this is done by a police officer, further action is to be done. The patrol officer should see a counselor to check for any anger issues. Clearly there are issues and something was not learned by the officer in training. This brings up the second point. Training is essential to an officer’s work. Without this, one should not be working in the field. Being an officer of the law involves people’s lives.

Any way that law enforcement offices can interact with agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation is important and helpful. Not to mention always discrete. The communication between the departments helps make the criminal justice system grow stronger.
All systems have flaws including the communication between the Department of Homeland Security and the local, state, and federal governments. As anyone and everyone knows we do not get information as fast as we should. For example, when an individual is arrested for suspicion for rape, some type of evidence would be taken to be seen if the suspect connects to the crime. Majority of the time, the evidence will be sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to see if anything such as fingerprints are in the Combined DNA Index System or CODIS for short.
