Every organization requires structure and cohesion. The significance of Law in this expansively interconnected world is resonated through its importance in bringing order to any society. The embodiment of law dates back to the creation of structures itself, when man acknowledged that without a regulatory body nothing could function. Following law in its quintessential state might be unprecedented, but it’s inherent importance in structuring and securing the loose social, financial, economic and legal fabric of our society is unparalleled.
The unpredictable views in any civilization have guaranteed that there is no black or white when it comes to the concept of social justice, moral values, criminal behavior, ethical misdemeanors and exploitation. Human perception and premature understanding of constitution and bylaws have led to formulation of shades of grey which decree the differences between right or wrong. In a world riddled with chaos, human beings need a constant set of rules and regulations that allows them to settle their differences. Understanding the fundamentals of social structure and the written law is impertinent for a sustainable living environment. These fundamentals are necessary to help others differentiate between the black and white and allow them to justify the grey areas. For this reason, I believe that pursuing a degree in Law would be highly beneficial to me in my future endeavors.
I have always been academically strong and structured, which has reflected in my O’level grades. Also through my subjects in A-levels I recognized how every person deserves justice and law was the path that led to that. Reading Plato’s “the Laws” was a complete revelation to me, my passion for law grew. To satisfy my raging passion for law, I have read an assortment of books by Niccolò Machiavelli, Friedrich Nietzsche, Judy Sheindlin, Dag Hammarskjöld and a selection of others.
I firmly believe in maintaining a balance between work and extracurricular activities. I have been engaged in a variety of societies, like Sports Club, Social Awareness Club, and Debates Club etc. I am a member of my School’s hockey and cricket team. Also I have been an ardent payer of tennis and have participated in national tournaments. I believe my extra curricula’s have been instrumental in molding various facets of my personality, allowing me to discern a sense of responsibility, confidence and maturity.
Legal profession in Pakistan offers multiple opportunities for talented and skilful lawyers to make a significant impact as there is dearth of trained lawyers capable of framing sophisticated legal arguments. Lawyers can also join the judiciary and play an active role in enforcing the rights of citizens and upholding the text of the Constitution of Pakistan. I consider myself eligible to pursue law not only out of keen interest but also because of my oral and writing skills which are essential traits of the legal profession. Recently, I got a flavor of the study and practice of law during a short certification course conducted by the Research Society of International Law in Pakistan. The experience further reinforced my interest in studying law.
I wish to advance my legal education at a British University because of the superior quality of legal education offered and also since our legal system is largely based on common law traditions and codes inherited from the British Raj. Moreover, British trained solicitors and barristers are well respected and acclaimed in Pakistan. Long term, I plan to use my legal education in Britain as a springboard to advance and safeguard the rights and interests of the common man in Pakistan. I firmly believe that unless rule of law and due process of law is understood and applied, Pakistan will never prosper and become a responsible and rights respecting state in the international community.
