ARTICLE SYNOPSIS
In this article, the main topic is online business. It explains the importance of e-business and how vital it is to have adequate laws that protect the business. These laws should be used and known worldwide, since any individual can make a purchase from anywhere in the world (different places, different laws). This article uses e-business in Mexico as a perfect example. E-business is at an early stage in Mexico, which means no specific laws pertain to e-business. E-business is not mentioned anywhere in Mexican laws or regulations, making it difficult to validate any enforcement. Mexico is currently in the process of drafting and putting together laws and regulations pertaining to e-business.
LEGAL ISSUE
The only applicable law for e-business in Mexico is the Law for the Protection of the Consumer. This law states that, “any consumer may file a complaint before the corresponding authority if that consumer feels that he has been deceived by false publicity on the quality of goods, the absence of timely delivery and the like.” (Becerril, 1999)
MANAGERIAL PERSPECTIVE
In my opinion, it would be very difficult to own an online business in Mexico. Without any rules and regulations to help protect the business, it would be almost impossible to operate successfully. It would be a little bit easier if there was some kind of protection or if some of the laws that are being drafted would pass. E-business is still young, meaning it hasn’t been around very long. I do not think any of this could be avoided because it is not something that has been around for ages. It is a new development that requires new laws.
