The purpose of this paper is to analyze a great business leader of today. In this study, I will defend, in my belief, why Lawrence Page is an effective leader.
Biographical Overview
Lawrence “Larry” Page was born in East Lansing, Michigan, United States on March 26, 1973 (Sergey, 1998). He grew up in a family of scientists that enjoyed learning about processes and how certain gadgets operated. Both of his parents have a background in computer science and allowed him to learn effectively about enhancement by enabling him to take risks at a younger age. This involved him as a child taking apart different items around the house and setting the items back at its original state. Through these experiences as a child, Lawrence Page decided that he wanted to pursue technology and eventually went off to invent his own product and company in the near future.
Furthermore, Lawrence Page went to Michigan State University to pursue his Bachelors of Science in Engineering. Later, he studied computer engineering at Stanford University. During his time at Stanford University he met his co-founder Sergey Brin, who became his partner in launching his future product, GOOGLE (Battelle, 2005). They both began as a team while working on a research project together to create a search engine that would display the results for a particular webpage. The search they designed orders each webpage by listing it by its popularity from internet users utilizing the World Wide Web. They both concluded that the most popular webpage is usually the most accurate and beneficial.
Therefore, rearranging each webpage through its level of popularity made rational sense to both Lawrence Page and Sergey Brin. They both decided to name their search engine “Google” after the mathematical term “googol,” which refers to the No. 1 followed by 100 zeros, to reflect their mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web (Stross, 2008).
