Jensen. {Line} In the book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, he writes a story about a couple of boys who stay stranded on an island with no grownups and only face each other to survive. {Sinker} Civilization of the island becomes commanding to the role of violence and savagery in the boys new lifestyle.
{Claim} The conch Piggy and Ralph found on the island symbolizes authority and law and order. The conch symbolizes unity when Golding destroys the conch; it symbolizes the end of civilization. {Evidence} Just before Piggy and the conch became smashed into little fragments, “The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.”(Golding 185). {Analysis} This shows the conch seems to remains to only call an assembly and the one holding the conch became the only

{Evidence} As Jack apologizes for taunting Piggy, “ Piggy grabbed and put on the glasses. He looked malevolently at Jack."I got to have them specs. Now I only got one eye. Jus’ [Sic] you wait--" ”(Golding 71). {Analysis} This shows that Piggy appears the only boy, other than Jack, who truly sees how problems should be looking at and taken care of. {Evidence} When the boys happen to build the fire, “Jack pointed suddenly. “His specs-use them as burning glasses!” ” (Golding 40). {Analysis} This becomes helpful for understanding the idea that the cracking the lens in the glasses, it symbolizes the boys losing a glimpse of what they need to do.
