I have involved myself in a multitude of different organizations throughout middle and high school. With everything from experience in scouting, to coaching, to work with Habitat for Humanity, the importance of leadership skills has become evident to me. They have given me experience that has made me more successful in school currently, and I intend for them to help me in my educational endeavors at East Carolina University as well. The experience I will receive in the…
Within the variety of administrative activities for the Practicum A and B, I feel that I have leadership qualities that will enhance a school. I had the benefit of working along side different personalities of my administrative team. Each person has their own strengths and weaknesses. I can only hope that when I become an administrator that I can work with people compliment each other to function as an unstoppable team. Even through life’s journeys I still wanted to further my education and make my goal a reality. I find myself learning more and more about how I do have qualities to be become a successful school administrator. My greatest strength would be my passion and compassion. I have the adaptability to…

Leadership is one of the most important parts of my life that I am constantly trying to develop. One of my biggest leadership roles…
LEADERSHIP is the buzz word in today’s world. Everyone aspires to be a leader. However there is no magic formula to become a leader or a blood test to know if we have become a leader. It is an evolutionary process. This paper tells the story of some of the defining moments that shaped my ongoing leadership journey. The list of attributes for a leader is endless. Most importantly, moral and ethical integrity should be at the core of every leader. Influencing and Collaboration are my primary strengths. In my decades of experience, these qualities have…
A leader is not a title earned for the sole purpose of bettering one’s position in society. After all, one cannot ordain themselves a leader, they must demonstrate themselves to be one to their peers and to themselves. Being a leader involves…
Often times there is a distinct quality or characteristic of leadership or management, although it would seem at times the two can be virtually intertwined. Successful people cannot be categorized into simply just one role- for effective, and successful leadership both skills are needed. At times the role of a leader can be the task at hand or the role of a manager can be the ability to inspire people. Managers are not limited to management and leaders are not confined to leadership, there are characteristics and qualities of each role. After reviewing articles of leadership qualities and through inner self awareness, the ability to identify three characteristics of leadership, and how to further develop those characteristics while in the program have become clear.…
Leadership is not only in a school setting but other professions requiring one or two people to direct others in a beneficial path. Pursuing a degree in administration forced me to reflect on the characteristics I see best fit when leading staff in the correct direction. Leaders are not born overnight, but take time to grow and perfect. Leaders not only are driven to benefit themselves, but also have a force behind them for the benefit of the entire school.…
Through the course, I learned about leadership different styles and how they emerged and developed from the Trait Theories that focus on the leader characteristics to the Goal Orientations Theories that require collaborative methods between leaders and followers. As I mentioned before, I had always linked the leadership weight to the leader leading characteristics. However, I would argue now that leadership is gained through practice and experience and it is powered through followers. As a school leader, I will use a mixture of leadership theories. First, I will build my school on an ethical basement and then, I will structure a vision that is shared between everyone in the school. At this point of my study, I believe that the type of leadership…
I take pride in organizing, instructing, and guiding individuals toward a collective goal. Being a leader is a nature of my personality; however, capitalizing on being a leader has allowed me to grow as a human being and accomplish things I would have not otherwise been able to do. My leadership positions have included a range of differences. At Knoch High School, I was the Class of 2014 Class President and Spanish Club Vice President; in addition, I was an active member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Future Business Leaders of America.…
My personality is good-natured, and my principle of communicating with people is to be gentle and to be a good listener. Meanwhile, I am particularly good at encouraging others and helping others. I also like to listen to other people's point and experience. Based on these characteristics about myself, I think I tend to be a servant leader. At the same time, in view of what I learned from the book and the lecture I attended on class in Week 1, I would like to explain why this stlye of leadership is fit on me.…
The first step I took towards bettering myself and how I view the world around me was to pick up this book and read it for myself, although it was required for class. I was constantly confounded throughout the text contained due to the certitude that I have never personally worked for a company that put this much effort in ensuring their employees viewed everyone around them as people, and that they would treat their customers/suppliers likewise. For me personally, I can strongly say that I am consumed staring at the walls inside my box knowingly because I am employed where I work with both egregious subject and those victimized by the crime. The last thing I think of is how I am going to look at others as people like myself. That is not to say I am unblemished nor outwardly express myself to be as such, but at the same time it has molded me into a person that does not easily confide in others I am unfamiliar with.…
Throughout my high school years, I maintained various leadership roles. The first of which was serving as a section leader in the marching band for three years. As a section leader, I was the example of how the section should act, present, and conduct them. I was also the captain of the golf and tennis teams, first leading by examples through my actions and then through my playing skills. At my home church, I am the Youth Director providing an example of how to live as a young Christian despite the temptation of peer pressure. While here at JMU, I am currently serving as a mentor at the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Boys and Girls Club to disadvantaged to youth. Just furthering my education beyond high school is the primary and first example of leadership. The kids at the club can look to me and see that I was once just like them but I’ve pushed through and maybe they can…
