Leadership Styles In Lord Of The Flies
In Lord of the Flies, Jack and Ralph have different leadership styles; Jack rules like a tyrant with malice while Ralph leads with a democratic method. When Ralph blames Jack for the fire going out, Jack ignores the fire, yet proudly claims, “I cut the pig’s throat,”(69). Jack is an inconsiderate and narrow-minded leader compared to Ralph; his main concerns are about hunting. Jack’s ignorance and greed lead him to ignore others and become a dictator. He gains power by manipulating the other boys to focus on killing pigs. His main priorities is to hunt, yet celebrate on the island instead of getting them back home.     In the book, Ralph is more innocent then Jack is. Ralph believes that he will be rescued by his father who is part of the navy. He thinks that as long as he keeps a fire burning that his father will find him as soon as he hears word that the plane was taken down. The fire is the only thing that really matters to Ralph because it symbolizes hope, hope to be rescued and taken away from the island.
