STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVE: At the end of this lesson you will be able to carry out TOET’s on the Glock 17 in a safe and competent manner, with knowledge of the named weapon parts.
BODY OF LESSON
Stage 1: WEAPON CHARACTERISTICS
• Introduce the weapon (Refer to Glock Instruction For Use for named weapon parts and specifications).
• N.B Ensure to point out that the Glock 17 is a short barrelled weapon, and the associated safety implications.
• Point out that there is no external safety device on the Glock (.i.e. no safety catch), but only a ‘Safe- Action’ trigger system. Hence the importance of the position of the trigger finger when not engaging. (.i.e. outside the trigger guard flush to the body of the weapon).
Stage 2: NORMAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS (NSP’s)
To be carried out when:
• Drawing weapon from armoury
• Handing the weapon to another person
• Unsure of the weapons condition
NSP’s:
• Maintaining control with the master hand on the pistol grip:
• Point weapon in a safe direction
• Cock the weapon
• Hold working parts to the rear using the slide stop
• Inspect chamber and bolt
• When weapon is clear release working parts forward
• Fire off the action
Stage 3: LOAD
• Maintaining control with the master hand on the pistol grip:
• Point weapon in a safe direction
• Remove magazine from pouch
• Inspect that rounds are correctly seated
• Insert magazine ensuring it is fully home
