LEARNING DISABILITIES
Learning disabilities, or learning disorders, are an umbrella term for a wide variety of learning problems. A learning disability is not a problem with intelligence or motivation. Kids with learning disabilities aren't lazy or dumb. In fact, most are just as smart as everyone else. Their brains are simply wired differently. The most common types of learning disabilities involve problems with reading, writing, math, reasoning, listening and speaking. These are heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning or mathematical abilities. These disorders are intrinsic to the individual and presumed to be due to Central Nervous System Dysfunction.
Learning disabilities look very different from one child to another. One child may struggle with reading and spelling, while another loves books but can’t understand math. Still another child may have difficulty understanding what others are saying or communicating out loud. The problems are very different, but they are all learning disorders.
DYSLEXIA: It is a language processing disorder. Dyslexic people have difficulty in learning to read, even though they are motivated to learn. Dyslexia also makes it difficult for people to express themselves clearly. It can be hard for them to use vocabulary and to structure thoughts into conversation. Its symptoms are: Problem in organizing written and spoken language, learning letters and their sounds, spelling, learning a foreign language, correctly doing math operations.
DYSCALCULIA: It is a specific learning disability in mathematics. Dyscalculia can occur in people from across the whole IQ range, often, but not always, involving difficulties with time, measurement, and spatial reasoning. Its symptoms are poor understanding of mathematical signs, difficulty in time tables, poor mental arithmetic skills, may reverse or transpose numbers for example 63
