Least Favorite Relative

September, 14, 2011 My Least Favorite Relative
My least favorite relative is my aunt. When I lived in Burma I used to be good friends with my cousin. We used to hang out during the school time. I liked her but I didn’t like her mother. They are rich people and they discriminate against the poor people. In the beginning we liked each other very much until I went to her birthday party. After that I felt that I didn’t like her very much. She invited me to go to her birthday party and I went with my whole family. When we walked close to her home she was looking at us through her living room window and she said, “Look! Look! The poor family and the thief children came to our home.” I felt so much pain when I heard her mother’s words. I became very angry and I told my mom, “Mom..! I want to go home.” My mom is very patient and has a good attitude all the time. She told me to be patient. After the party was over, my family and I went home with pain in our hearts but we tried to make each other happy and not to be sad. At the time I did not feel very much happiness so I didn’t want to be with my cousin too much after that. When I went back to school on Monday she asked me, “Did you have fun at my birthday party?” and all I could say was “It was a nice party and I hope you had happy birthday” but I had to hide my feelings and control myself. I could not let bad words come out of my mouth that could hurt her because she was my cousin.

It was Adrian’s 9th birthday and all our family, along with Adrian’s friends from school, came to celebrate. It's a tradition for everyone from our family to bring their own homemade food to gatherings. My Uncle Willie brought rice and beans, my Aunt Marce brought her potato salad, and my Grandma managed to make a whole bunch of tortillas. Rather quickly however, everyone noticed that my Aunt Mona wasn't here, as she would usually bring a variety of sweets everyone enjoyed. My Mother told us that, my Aunt won't be able to make it to the party because she came up with a case of shingles and felt it was best to try and avoid contact with others until it goes away. The party felt incomplete without her but we were able to still have fun and celebrate Adrian’s birthday. Thankfully my Aunt made the right call in staying home and everyone started wondering what…

Perhaps the most important factor in a person’s development is his or her family. Family members can shape some one’s thoughts and can make it difficult for a person to fit in one’s environment. In the novel Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko, Tayo’s auntie is an antagonistic woman who is concerned about other people’s judgment toward her and her family. Her unfriendly behavior sprang from her low self-esteem and the anger she reproached because her sister’s unruly actions.…

During my conversation with your mom, she told me that you were so embarrassed of the house you used to live in. I would have to say that I have a good relationship with everyone on my mom's side compared to my dad's side. My grandfather lives in Puerto Rico and we only see him during Christmas time. He divorced my grandmother a couple years before I was born and I absolutely hate his wife. I love my grandmother, even though I don't see her as much either. But we aren't as close as I am with my other grandmother. I seriously think that my aunt is insane, therefore I don't talk to her as much as I should. My cousin is attending college in some state that I am unaware of, so that should say enough about my relationship with him. I really wish I was closer with him, though. Then comes my dad. To be honest, I don't love my father. Sometimes I think that I'm a really bad person for not loving him, but I can't help it. He and I barely exchange words around the house. There is just something about him that I don't respect.…

In January of 2012 my great grandmother, Charlena Ware, died. Everybody in my family was impacted by her passing, even my extended family. Her funeral was a family reunion of sorts. Although many members of my family were affected greatly by her passing, her death was the worst event in my life that I can remember. Before her passing, my great grandfather, Horace Ware, was the first to pass. From what my family tells me his death was the same caliber of tragedy as my grandmother’s. And after that, my grandmother on my dad’s side and my first dog died. However, my great grandmother’s death affected me the most out of any of those. In part because of my age, and in part because of the many memories I had of her.…

The LPC scale is used in contingency theory to measure a person's leadership style. For example, it measures your style by having you describe a coworker with whom you had difficulty completing a job. This does not need to be a co-worker you disliked a great deal, but rather someone with whom you least like to work. After you have selected this individual, the LPC instrument asks you to describe your coworker on 18 sets of adjectives.…
