THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH REPORT
The development studies students association went for a general cleaning exercise at Buggujju trading center on Saturday 23/11/2013. A number of activities were carried out and these included; sweeping the roads, picking of Polythene bags, plastics, metals and glasses. Students also collected and loaded garbage on the truck the Municipality sent for use. This followed by interaction with the local people more especially the residents who were educated on the importance of a clean environment. It was emphasized that a clean environment is every ones responsibility and a human right. It was emphasized that it is against God’s will for man to defile the environment. The bible is clear in Numbers 35:33-34 “Do not pollute the land where you live..... Do not defile the land where you live and where I God dwell”. It is therefore sin to do the contrary. The event attracted the church members of Love stream centre- Bugjju and also some students from Kyabogo University.
The team of development studies students from UCU was able to tell the local residents as to why they choose Bugujju Trading Center and why they were cleaning the trading centre. It was emphasized, that it is our noble duty to give back to community through cooperate social responsibility and also to promote social solidarity between the UCU community and the community around the university.
We therefore, believe that the outreach has a definite impact on the community because it provides a place where children, business people, our own students and other local residents afford an opportunity to enjoy a clean environment. The team reminded the community that
